The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP’s Communication Division communicates UNEP’s core messages to all stakeholders and partners, raising environmental awareness and enhancing the profile of UNEP worldwide. This position is located in the Communication Division at the Nairobi duty station. Under the supervision of the Head of Web the incumbent will carry out the following duties:
Responsibilities

Ability to identify and resolve data discrepancies and operational problems. Competencies
Education
Completion of secondary school/High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
Supplementary training in Information Technology, or related area is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in web development for multilingual sites, information systems analysis and programming, systems administration and maintenance, software development, technical writing or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to eight (8) years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Proficiency in Drupal and knowledge of commonly used Drupal modules is required. Experience with “Agile Methodology” for project management is required. Experience with version control (GIT), such as creating branches, tags, etc. and working in a multi-developer environment is desirable. Experience with web development (PHP, mySQL, HTML/CSS, Javascript) is desirable. Experience with cross browser web development for standard browsers and familiarity with principles of accessibility, responsive web design and HTML/CSS/JS frameworks is desirable. One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable. NOTE: ”Fluency” equals a rating of ”fluent” in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and ”Knowledge of” equals a rating of ”confident” in two of the four areas.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Appointment against this post is for an initial period of one (1) year and may be subject to extension.
