Liechtenstein REED Scholarship Opens 2026 Applications for Sustainable Energy Master’s Programme

The Liechtenstein Institute for Strategic Development (LISD), with support from the Government of Liechtenstein, has officially announced the 2026 call for applications for the REED Scholarship. The programme targets postgraduate students pursuing a Master of Science in Sustainable Energy at selected partner universities in Africa, including the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS).
The scholarship is part of a broader international development initiative aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 7, which focuses on ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.
The REED (Renewable Energy Enterprise Development) Scholarship is designed to build technical capacity and leadership among emerging African energy professionals. It provides financial support to qualified students enrolled in participating master’s programmes, enabling them to contribute to renewable energy access across communities, industries, and urban systems.
Programme Objective and Strategic Focus
The scholarship initiative is anchored in the long-term development of Africa’s renewable energy sector. It is structured to support academic training while also promoting applied knowledge in real-world energy systems.
Key objectives of the programme include:
- Developing a new generation of African renewable energy experts
- Strengthening sustainable energy access across rural and urban communities
- Supporting innovation in infrastructure, energy systems, and regional development
- Enhancing cross-sector collaboration in clean energy transitions
- Aligning academic training with global sustainability targets
LISD emphasizes that the REED Scholarship is not only an academic funding mechanism but also a strategic development tool aimed at strengthening energy resilience and sustainability in emerging economies.
The Institute operates internationally in the integration and promotion of renewable energy solutions across infrastructure and development sectors, supported through Liechtenstein’s broader international development programme.
