Building a New Innovation Hub in East Africa
The new Innovation Centre in Nairobi will serve as a strategic platform to strengthen collaboration between Denmark, Kenya, and the wider African innovation ecosystem. The Centre will focus on key thematic areas including:
- Green transition and climate solutions
- Health innovation and systems strengthening
- Digitalisation and emerging technologies
The Innovation Officer will play a central role in supporting partnerships, coordinating initiatives, and translating innovative ideas into practical, high-impact programmes.
Role Purpose and Responsibilities
The Innovation Officer will be expected to contribute to the establishment and operational development of the Nairobi hub while actively engaging with stakeholders across government, academia, industry, and entrepreneurship ecosystems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting innovation and entrepreneurship programmes and partnerships
- Mapping and engaging stakeholders within Kenya’s innovation ecosystem
- Translating ideas and strategic priorities into actionable initiatives
- Facilitating collaboration between Danish and African partners
- Supporting administrative and financial compliance processes
- Contributing to the design and implementation of innovation activities
The role is designed for a professional who can combine strategic thinking with hands-on implementation in a dynamic international environment.
Required Qualifications and Skills
Applicants are expected to bring a combination of academic training, practical experience, and ecosystem knowledge. The ideal candidate should have:
- A relevant higher education degree in fields such as innovation, business, development studies, engineering, or related disciplines
- Proven experience in innovation, entrepreneurship, or research collaboration
- Strong understanding of the Kenyan innovation ecosystem and key stakeholders
- Ability to transform ideas into structured and implementable initiatives
- Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken
- Experience with administrative processes and financial compliance

Contract and Working Conditions
The Innovation Officer position is offered as a two-year contract, with the possibility of extension based on performance and organisational needs.
