UNDP BRACE4PEACE Programme Launches Free Skills Training and Livelihood Support for Youth and Women in Kenya

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has officially opened applications for the BRACE4PEACE Programme, a major socio-economic empowerment initiative targeting vulnerable youth and women across selected counties in Kenya.
The programme offers free market-driven skills training, mentorship, and livelihood support designed to strengthen employability, entrepreneurship, and community resilience while advancing peacebuilding and preventing violent extremism.
BRACE4PEACE Programme Targets Economic Empowerment and Peacebuilding
The BRACE4PEACE Programme—Peacebuilding and Prevention of Violent Extremism (PVE) in East Africa—adopts a development-focused approach to addressing conflict, instability, and economic vulnerability in the region.
Implemented through a partnership between the United Nations Development Programme and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the initiative supports long-term peacebuilding and resilience-building efforts across East Africa, including Kenya, Somalia, and South Sudan.
In Kenya, the programme is implemented in collaboration with several national institutions, including:
- National Steering Committee on Peacebuilding and Conflict Management (NSC)
- National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC)
- National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC)
- Security Research and Information Centre (SRIC)
- Inter-Religious Council of Kenya (IRCK)
Counties Eligible for the Programme
Applications are currently open for eligible participants from the following Kenyan counties:
- Isiolo
- Samburu
- Kisumu
- Kilifi
- Nairobi
The programme aims to support more than 800 vulnerable participants through tailored vocational and entrepreneurship training.
Who Can Apply?
The BRACE4PEACE Programme is specifically targeting:
- Youth aged 18–35 years
- Women from vulnerable backgrounds
- Residents of low-income or female-headed households
- Individuals willing to join community Self-Help Groups
- Applicants able to participate fully between May and December 2026
The initiative is designed to strengthen both economic opportunities and community-level resilience.

- Beekeeping
- Beadwork and handicrafts
Kisumu
- Cage aquaculture and fisheries

- Digital solutions and ICT training
All training programmes are competency-based and delivered locally through practical, hands-on learning supported by experienced trainers and entrepreneurs.
