Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), through its Department of History, Political Science and Public Administration, has announced an exciting postdoctoral research opportunity under the groundbreaking European Research Council (ERC) funded project titled Political Parties in Africa and Democracy (PPADEM).
The university is inviting applications from highly motivated and qualified emerging scholars interested in contributing to one of the largest empirical studies ever conducted on political parties and democratic development in Africa. About the PPADEM Research Project
The Political Parties in Africa and Democracy (PPADEM) project is an ambitious international research collaboration involving:

Role and Responsibilities
The successful postdoctoral researcher will join an international team of senior scholars and early-career researchers working on African politics, political institutions, elections, and democratic governance.
The selected candidate will play a leading role in several aspects of the project, including:
- Survey design and implementation
- Data collection, analysis, and archiving
- Development of cross-national datasets on African political parties
- Research instrument design for party headquarters and branch studies
- Sampling strategy development for constituency elite surveys
- Pilot studies and fieldwork coordination
- Presentation of findings at local and international conferences
- Preparation of peer-reviewed journal publications

In addition to research responsibilities, the postdoctoral fellow will also contribute to limited undergraduate and postgraduate teaching within the department to strengthen pedagogical and academic development.
Candidate Requirements

Essential Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must possess:
- A PhD in Political Science or a closely related social science discipline by the time of appointment
- Demonstrated expertise in survey design

The university also notes that the successful postdoctoral researcher cannot hold a full-time appointment at KNUST or any other public university or institution during the fellowship period.
