U.S. Embassy Uganda is Hiring a Social Media Community Management Coordinator: Apply by 31 May 2026

U.S. Embassy Uganda has announced a new employment opportunity for a Social Media Community Management Coordinator within its Public Diplomacy Section.

The position offers experienced communications professionals the chance to shape the embassy’s digital presence while engaging audiences across Uganda through strategic online communication and content development.

Position Overview

The role, officially titled Social Media Community Management Coordinator (Strategic Content Coordination Assistant), is a full-time position requiring 40 hours of work per week. The successful candidate will play a central role in managing the embassy’s social media strategy and digital engagement initiatives.

The selected professional will be responsible for creating, managing and expanding the embassy’s online presence across multiple social media platforms. The position combines strategic communication planning with hands-on multimedia content creation and audience engagement.

The embassy is seeking a proactive and creative individual capable of working collaboratively with internal departments while independently identifying opportunities to enhance digital communication and public engagement.

Key Responsibilities

The Social Media Community Management Coordinator will oversee the development and execution of a year-long editorial calendar designed to support embassy communication goals and public diplomacy objectives.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Managing official embassy social media platforms
  • Producing multimedia content for digital audiences
  • Monitoring social media trends and audience behaviour
  • Engaging with online communities through dialogue and interaction
  • Organising and moderating online conversations and campaigns
  • Supporting embassy staff with digital communication guidance and best practices
  • Analysing audience engagement and outreach performance

The role also requires occasional after-hours work to respond to breaking developments in the global news environment and maintain active communication with target audiences.

Educational and Experience Requirements

Applicants must possess a university degree in one of the following fields:

  • Political Science
  • International Relations
  • Communications
  • Business
  • Marketing
  • Or an equivalent qualification

Candidates are also expected to have at least two years of experience managing digital platforms, online communities or multimedia content creation.

The embassy is particularly interested in applicants with strong knowledge of Uganda’s communication landscape, including demographic, cultural, linguistic and social factors that influence public opinion and digital engagement.

Skills and Competencies Required

The position demands advanced communication, technical and analytical abilities.

Successful candidates should demonstrate:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience developing digital campaigns and multimedia content
  • Knowledge of audience analysis tools such as Hootsuite and Google Analytics
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and graphic design software
  • Experience managing social media communities and engagement strategies
  • The ability to communicate in English and either Luganda or Kiswahili

The role also requires excellent organisational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple online platforms simultaneously while producing time-sensitive content.

Salary and Employment Conditions

The position is classified at FSN 9/FP-5 level and offers an annual salary of UGX 89,024,911. Final compensation for eligible U.S. Foreign Service candidates will be determined by Washington, D.C.

The appointment is indefinite, subject to the successful completion of a probationary period and required background investigations.

Applicants selected for the role must be able to begin work within four weeks of receiving the necessary authorisations and security clearances.
