The Global Network of Civil Society Organisations for Disaster Reduction is inviting applications for the position of Regional Lead (Africa). About the Role

The Regional Lead (Africa) position is a senior and influential role within GNDR’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT). The successful candidate will oversee membership engagement, programme delivery, advocacy initiatives, and regional operations across Africa.

The role combines strategic leadership with operational management and partnership development.

The Regional Lead will:

• Strengthen regional membership mobilisation and support
• Lead advocacy and influencing initiatives
• Manage donor-funded programmes and projects
• Build partnerships with:
  • UN agencies
  • Governments
  • Institutional donors
  • Civil society organisations

The successful candidate will also serve as a subject matter expert on a designated “Risk Driver,” contributing to GNDR’s global strategy and thematic priorities.

Core Responsibilities

Leadership and Team Management

• Provide strategic leadership across regional programmes and operations
• Support cross-functional collaboration within the secretariat team
• Contribute to organisational strategy as a member of the Senior Leadership Team

Membership Engagement and Mobilisation

• Strengthen relationships with member organisations across Africa
• Support regional advisory groups and governance processes
• Facilitate member participation and collaboration initiatives

Advocacy and Influencing

• Lead regional advocacy campaigns on disaster risk reduction and climate resilience
• Represent GNDR in international and regional forums
• Support evidence-led policy engagement and localisation agendas

Project and Programme Management

• Oversee implementation and monitoring of regional projects
• Ensure programme delivery aligns with organisational objectives and donor requirements
• Coordinate reporting, compliance, and operational processes

Fundraising and Partnership Development

• Support fundraising initiatives and donor engagement
• Build strategic partnerships with institutions and development actors
• Identify opportunities for programme expansion and collaboration

Knowledge and Information Management

• Promote evidence-based learning and knowledge exchange
• Support regional research, documentation, and dissemination activities

Ideal Candidate Profile

GNDR is seeking a leader with strong expertise in:

• Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)
• Climate action and resilience
• Risk-informed development
• Localisation and decolonisation approaches
• Evidence-based programming and advocacy
