Job Summary

The Graduate Trainee – Procurement will support the implementation of procurement strategies at the local level. The role focuses on managing operational and tactical procurement activities, including sourcing, negotiation, and supplier management.

The position requires close collaboration with Procurement Managers to ensure efficiency, compliance, and value optimisation in the procurement of goods and services.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Researching and identifying new suppliers for low-value purchases
  • Presenting potential suppliers for evaluation and approval
  • Sourcing and comparing quotations from multiple suppliers
  • Negotiating pricing, delivery timelines, and contractual terms
  • Verifying that goods and services meet company specifications before procurement
  • Ensuring timely delivery of goods and services
  • Monitoring supplier payments to ensure timely processing
  • Building and maintaining relationships with suppliers
  • Conducting quarterly supplier performance reviews
  • Identifying procurement risks and opportunities and advising management
  • Creating and managing local purchase orders within authorised limits

Required Qualifications and Technical Competencies

Applicants must meet the following academic and professional requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Honours Degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management or a related field from a recognised university
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in procurement or supply chain operations
  • Exposure to sourcing, procurement processes, and supply chain management practices

Additional advantages include:

  • Postgraduate qualifications such as CIPS or equivalent
  • Knowledge of electronic procurement systems
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as SAP
  • Experience working within cross-functional teams
