
World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists, in partnership with the University of Nairobi, is inviting applications for the 2026/27 Paediatric Anaesthesia Fellowship Programme.
This prestigious fellowship offers up to three fully funded 12-month training positions based in Nairobi, beginning in September/October 2026.
Programme Overview
The fellowship is designed to strengthen clinical expertise in paediatric anaesthesia through a combination of hands-on training and academic learning. Fellows will primarily be based at Kenyatta National Hospital and will rotate through partner hospitals with active paediatric surgical programmes.

Funding and Support
The fellowship offers financial support, which may include:
- Tuition fees
- Accommodation
- Subsistence living expenses
However, applicants should note that full funding is not guaranteed in all cases, and some costs may need to be covered independently.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a qualified physician anaesthesiologist
- Be registered as a medical practitioner in their home country
- Be eligible for registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council
- Be supported by:
- Their national anaesthesiology society (a WFSA member society)
- Their Head of Department or hospital management
- Demonstrate intention to return to a recognized post in their home country
Preference will be given to:
- Early-career anaesthesiologists
- Candidates currently working in Kenya, Central, or Eastern Africa
However, experienced professionals and applicants from other African countries are also encouraged to apply.
Application Process – WFSA
Candidates must apply through the WFSA online platform and submit the following documents:
- Curriculum Vitae (including a recent photo and two referees)
- Letter of recommendation from the national anaesthesiology society
- Letter of recommendation from Head of Department or hospital management
- Copy of medical degree
- Copy of specialist anaesthesia qualification
- Copy of passport identification page
Application Process – University of Nairobi
In addition to the WFSA application, candidates must apply separately to the University of Nairobi. Required documents include:
- Completed online application form
- Certified copies of undergraduate and specialist anaesthesia degrees
- Certified academic transcripts
- Verification of qualifications (for non-Kenyan degrees)
- Certified high school certificates
- Proof of good standing from relevant medical authority
- Police clearance certificate
- Official translations (if documents are not in English)
- Proof of vaccinations (Yellow Fever and Hepatitis B)
Applicants should note that the university application process is highly detailed and strict, and incomplete submissions will not be accepted.
Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed by a panel of anaesthesiologists selected by WFSA.
- Successful candidates will be notified by June 2026
- Selected applicants must confirm acceptance within two days
- Failure to confirm may result in the offer being reassigned
