Role Overview: What Does an Advocacy Manager Do?
The Advocacy Manager plays a central role in CARE’s Citizen Action Network (CAN), helping transform a nationwide base of supporters into a powerful advocacy movement. This position is responsible for designing and executing grassroots organizing strategies that influence U.S. policymakers and strengthen support for international assistance programs.
Working under the Director for Movement Building and Partnerships, the Advocacy Manager collaborates across departments, including fundraising and marketing, to build a unified advocacy strategy. Success in this role is defined by tangible outcomes such as increased congressional engagement, expanded volunteer leadership, and stronger partnerships.
Key Responsibilities of the Advocacy Manager
1. Driving High-Impact Advocacy Campaigns
The Advocacy Manager leads the planning and execution of advocacy initiatives targeting Members of Congress. This includes organizing Capitol Hill advocacy days, coordinating in-district meetings, and preparing advocates with policy briefings and strategic messaging.
By applying political insight and relationship-building skills, the manager ensures advocacy efforts align with legislative priorities and effectively influence decision-makers.
2. Building Volunteer Leadership and Grassroots Networks
