
Aidsfonds – Soa Aids Nederland is seeking a Communications Advisor to support its international programmes. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to a global mission focused on ending AIDS and promoting sexual health and freedom for all. The Communications Team plays a vital role in advancing this mission by delivering accurate information, strengthening visibility, and supporting fundraising and advocacy efforts.
Role Purpose
The Communications Advisor – International Programmes is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies that support global initiatives. The role requires both strategic thinking and hands-on execution, ensuring consistent messaging and effective engagement with diverse stakeholders.
The advisor collaborates closely with internal teams, including the International Department and Advocacy Team, as well as external partners and funders.
Key Responsibilities
The Communications Advisor will lead and support a range of activities, including:
- Strategic Communication Planning:
Develop communication plans aligned with international programme objectives, EU advocacy efforts, and organisational strategy - Advisory and Stakeholder Engagement:
Provide practical communication guidance to colleagues and partners while fostering alignment and buy-in - Content Development and Coordination:
Create and manage content across digital and offline platforms, working with designers and writers where necessary - Channel and Media Management:
Identify appropriate communication channels, including social media and online platforms, to maximise reach and impact - Monitoring and Evaluation:
Track communication performance, analyse results, and refine strategies based on insights
The role also focuses on key international programmes such as:
- Hands Off (supporting sex workers)
- EmpowHer Fund (supporting women and girls)
- Key Populations initiatives
- European Union advocacy efforts

Candidate Profile

Required Qualifications
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Relevant educational background with HBO-level thinking and working experience
- At least five years of experience in a communications advisory role
- Strong skills in advocacy, corporate communication, or journalism
- Excellent written and spoken English (required)
- Current residency and legal eligibility to work in the Netherlands
- Experience with digital tools such as Photoshop, Canva, or video editing platforms
Preferred Qualifications
Additional advantages include:

- Familiarity with working across multiple stakeholders and partners
- Fluency in Dutch (spoken and written)
