The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations is inviting applications for the position of Agricultural Statistician (Vacancy No. 2600638). This opportunity is offered under a Consultant / Personal Services Agreement (PSA) and is designed for professionals with expertise in agricultural statistics and data systems.

The Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia (REU) leads initiatives aimed at improving food security, agricultural productivity, and rural development.
In collaboration with the Statistics Division (ESS) and national institutions, FAO supports countries in strengthening agricultural data systems. In the Republic of Moldova, FAO works closely with the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) to align agricultural statistics with European Union standards and improve data quality, comparability, and methodology.
Role Overview
The Agricultural Statistician serves as a technical expert, supporting capacity-building initiatives and providing guidance across the agricultural statistics production cycle. The role involves close collaboration with FAO teams, national stakeholders, and regional partners.
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will undertake a variety of technical and coordination tasks, including:
- Supporting capacity development activities through training workshops (virtual or in-person)
- Assisting in the planning and implementation of agricultural censuses and surveys
- Designing sampling frameworks and survey methodologies
- Developing Computer-Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI) tools
- Managing data collection, processing, and statistical analysis
- Computing indicators based on agricultural survey data
- Preparing data dissemination products, including statistical reports and micro-data sharing tools
- Contributing to methodological documentation and technical notes
- Coordinating with national stakeholders to ensure effective project implementation
Reporting Structure
The Agricultural Statistician will work under:
- The overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Moldova
- Technical supervision of the REU Statistician
- Close collaboration with the National Bureau of Statistics and other national partners
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Background:
- University degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field
- A PhD is considered an advantage
- Professional Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in agricultural statistics or economics
- Experience in survey design, data processing, and training programs
- Candidates with a PhD may qualify with 2 years of experience
- Language Proficiency:
- Working knowledge of English or Russian (Level C)
