Call for Applications: Pan-African AgriTech Incubation Programme – Apply 27 April 2026

The United Nations Development Programme has launched a call for applications inviting AgriTech startups to join the Pan-African Incubation Programme under its timbuktoo initiative. Hosted in Ghana and supported by the Government of Japan, the programme aims to identify and scale innovative startups transforming agriculture across Africa.

The application deadline is 27 April 2026, with selected startups joining the first cohort in May 2026.

Programme Overview

The incubation programme is anchored within timbuktoo, a flagship UNDP initiative designed to position Africa as a global leader in innovation and entrepreneurship. Through the timbuktoo AgriTech Hub, the programme supports startups developing technology-driven solutions to improve agricultural productivity, strengthen food systems, and enhance climate resilience.

Agriculture remains a cornerstone of Africa’s economy, employing over half the continent’s workforce. However, persistent challenges—such as limited market access, climate vulnerability, inefficient supply chains, and restricted financing—continue to hinder growth. The programme addresses these barriers by supporting scalable, innovation-led solutions across the agricultural value chain.

Programme Structure and Support

Selected startups will gain access to a comprehensive incubation experience combining local and continental support systems. Key components include:

  • Structured incubation programmes delivered by leading African incubators
  • Mentorship access from experienced entrepreneurs and industry experts
  • Pan-African ecosystem integration, connecting founders, investors, and partners
  • Digital support platform, powered by Seedstars’ SIGMA system
  • Investment readiness training, including pitch development and investor engagement
  • Participation in demo days and ecosystem events across Africa
  • Access to acceleration pathways and early-stage funding opportunities

The incubation programme is designed to prepare startups for scale, sustainability, and long-term impact.

  • Supply chain and logistics innovation
  • Food processing and value addition
  • Sustainable agricultural inputs

These focus areas reflect the growing importance of technology in transforming agriculture into a more efficient, resilient, and inclusive sector.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be based in Africa or develop solutions targeting African agricultural markets
  • Have a prototype or Minimum Viable Product (MVP)
  • Demonstrate a committed founding team
  • Address a clearly defined agricultural challenge
  • Show potential for scalability and growth

The programme strongly encourages applications from:

  • Women-led startups
  • Youth entrepreneurs
  • Founders operating in underserved or rural communities

This inclusive approach aligns with broader development goals of equity, innovation, and economic empowerment.

Application Process and Timeline

Applications are submitted through an online platform and are reviewed on a rolling basis. Startups are selected in quarterly cohorts.

  • Application deadline: 27 April 2026
  • First cohort start date: May 2026
  • Subsequent cohorts: Every three months

Applicants are required to submit detailed information about their startup, including their solution, team, and growth strategy.
