Scholarship Benefits and Financial Support

Recipients of the Ajinomoto Foundation Postgraduate Scholarship receive comprehensive financial and academic support throughout their studies. The program provides a monthly allowance of ¥180,000 for up to two years during enrollment as a master’s course student. For scholars who begin as research students, a monthly allowance of ¥150,000 is granted for a maximum of one year.

In addition, the scholarship fully covers examination fees, admission fees, and tuition costs. Prior to departure for Japan, the foundation also shoulders the expenses for medical and psychological examinations, as well as Japanese language training. Round-trip airfare from the Philippines to Japan is likewise included, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder the scholar’s academic journey.

Duration of the Scholarship

The scholarship may cover a maximum period of three years, consisting of up to one year as a research student followed by two years as a master’s course student.

For scholars enrolling at Waseda University, funding is generally provided for two years of master’s course study only, in accordance with the university’s academic structure and policies.

Selection Process and Timeline

The selection process is conducted in several stages to ensure that the most qualified candidate is chosen. The first screening and interview are scheduled for March 2026, followed by a second screening in April 2026 and a third screening in May 2026.

The final results will be announced in June 2026. Successful applicants are required to complete all university documentation and secure enrollment by October 2026. Applicants should note that application periods and the issuance of admission letters may vary depending on the university, and direct coordination with the chosen graduate school is strongly advised.

Conditions for Scholarship Continuation

The Ajinomoto Foundation places high importance on integrity, academic performance, and compliance with program rules. The scholarship may be suspended or terminated if the recipient provides false information in the application, receives another scholarship, fails to pass the master’s course entrance examination within one year of arriving in Japan as a research student, or fails to arrive in Japan by the designated date.

Long-term absence due to illness, dishonest conduct, poor academic performance, withdrawal from school, or repeating an academic year may also result in termination. Violations of university regulations or the rules of the Ajinomoto Scholarship Foundation are grounds for immediate action. Depending on the circumstances, scholarship funds already disbursed may be required to be repaid in full or in part.
