TEAM Nigeria Ltd. is Seeking a Signaling & Telecommunication (S&T) Engineer

TEAM Nigeria Ltd. is seeking an experienced and committed Signaling & Telecommunication (S&T) Engineer to join its supervision team for the Kano–Maradi–Dutse Railway Project in Kano State. This large-scale national infrastructure initiative aims to enhance regional mobility, expand economic opportunities and contribute to sustainable transport development in Nigeria. The engineer will play a pivotal role in supervising on-site S&T activities, ensuring strict adherence to technical standards, safety requirements and project timelines. The role requires a proactive and solutions-oriented professional capable of working effectively in demanding environments while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary project teams.

Role Overview

The S&T Engineer will oversee construction and installation activities related to signaling, telecommunication and other associated systems. The engineer will ensure compliance with approved specifications and maintain high standards of quality across all site activities. The role requires comprehensive technical knowledge, strong communication skills and the ability to identify and resolve on-site challenges promptly.

The position is based at TEAM Nigeria Ltd.’s Kano project office and is full-time.

Key Responsibilities

On-Site Technical Supervision

  • Oversee daily construction and installation activities to ensure full compliance with approved project specifications, standards and safety requirements.
  • Monitor and evaluate work performed by contractors to ensure alignment with technical expectations and quality assurance protocols.
  • Conduct on-site inspections and ensure accurate documentation of all activities.

Review and Verification

  • Review technical drawings, schematics and installation procedures for signaling, telecommunication and control systems.
  • Verify the accuracy, feasibility and compliance of all submitted designs and propose adjustments where necessary.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare comprehensive daily and weekly progress reports detailing completed activities, challenges, deviations, and corrective actions.
  • Document non-conformances promptly and track resolutions in collaboration with internal teams and contractors.
  • Maintain organised records of all technical documentation, inspections and verification processes.

Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Coordinate with engineers, contractors, project managers and external stakeholders to facilitate seamless execution of S&T activities.
  • Participate in technical meetings, site briefings and progress reviews to provide updates and address emerging issues.
  • Support multidisciplinary collaboration by ensuring clear communication channels between teams.

Quality Control and Safety

  • Enforce strict compliance with quality assurance standards and regulatory requirements throughout all phases of construction.
  • Monitor adherence to health and safety procedures, ensuring safe work practices across diverse working environments.
  • Identify potential risks and report them promptly, proposing suitable mitigation measures.

Problem-Solving and Site Adaptability

  • Diagnose technical challenges and construction-related issues and recommend timely, effective solutions.
  • Maintain flexibility to work in challenging conditions, adapt to extended work hours and adjust to changing project realities.
  • Ensure resilience and professional conduct in demanding field environments.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Railway Signaling, Telecommunication, Control Systems, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Registration or membership with a recognised engineering body such as COREN or NSE is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of practical experience in construction supervision and project implementation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering standards, construction methodologies and site supervision best practices.
  • Strong background in railway signaling and telecommunication systems is advantageous.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Office and engineering design software or relevant programming languages.
  • Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, technical documentation and layout plans.
  • Strong analytical skills and a methodical approach to technical problem-solving.

Interpersonal and Professional Skills

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, with the ability to guide site teams and influence positive outcomes.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to support effective coordination and reporting.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities, with a willingness to take responsibility for assigned tasks.
  • High adaptability to demanding site environments and readiness to work extended hours when required.
