Offering a monthly salary range of $3,901 to $4,333, this exempt position plays a vital role in coordinating sustainability programming, supporting campus-wide conservation efforts, and guiding students in developing impactful sustainability projects. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team working to strengthen environmental stewardship across Housing and Residential Life and the broader university community.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must clearly demonstrate how they meet the following criteria:
- A bachelor’s degree in sustainability, environmental science, sociology, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of professional experience in sustainability programming or project coordination.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, essential for reporting, outreach, and stakeholder collaboration.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across diverse groups within the university.
- Familiarity with sustainability best practices, including assessment systems such as AASHE STARS.
- Experience delivering sustainability-related programming for residential campus communities or similar environments.
- Knowledge of sustainability concepts such as waste reduction, energy conservation, water management, recycling, and sustainable campus operations.
- Experience with sustainability planning, event coordination, and outreach within higher education.
Applicants must also possess or be able to obtain a valid Texas driver’s license, with a driving record meeting university standards.
Preferred Qualifications
Competitive applicants may also bring:
- A Master of Science degree in a sustainability-related discipline.
- At least two years of experience working in sustainability for a public university or municipality.
- Experience collaborating with undergraduate students to advance programmes or collective sustainability goals.
- Familiarity with AASHE and the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS).
Position Overview
The Sustainability Coordinator performs a range of responsibilities that promote sustainability engagement, strengthen campus-wide initiatives, and support student learning and involvement. The role requires proactive leadership, strategic planning, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and environmentally responsible campus culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and promote sustainability engagement programmes to increase campus awareness and participation.
- Participate in monthly cross-departmental meetings, ensuring consistent communication of sustainability initiatives.
- Support Facilities teams on resource conservation projects and sustainability initiatives within Housing and Residential Life.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to student interns, supporting their academic and professional growth in sustainability and helping them develop educational resources.
- Collaborate on sustainability and volunteer programme development with Housing and Residential Life, student involvement units, and student-led organisations such as the Residential Hall Association (RHA).
- Coordinate and collect data for the university’s ongoing participation in AASHE STARS assessments.
- Ensure sustainability education and outreach efforts reflect the interdisciplinary nature of the field by collaborating with faculty on curriculum and administrative initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in support of the Office of Sustainability.
