VisionFund Kenya, a leading financial services provider and key investment of World Vision Kenya, is seeking a Business Insurance Manager to lead the organisation’s microinsurance initiatives. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, the role focuses on strategy development, product implementation, and operational oversight to deliver affordable and relevant insurance solutions that enhance financial resilience in underserved communities.
This leadership position offers the opportunity to combine technical expertise in insurance with strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and community impact, ensuring that VisionFund Kenya’s insurance products contribute meaningfully to inclusive financial services.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy, Planning, and Product Development
The Business Insurance Manager will:
- Develop and implement the organisation’s microinsurance strategy aligned with VisionFund Kenya’s broader objectives.
- Design or refine microinsurance products including life, health, crop, and livestock insurance to meet the needs of low-income clients.
- Conduct market research, client segmentation, and risk analysis to inform product design and pricing.
- Pilot-test new products, collect feedback, and adjust offerings to optimise uptake and relevance.
- Identify innovative business models and distribution channels to increase accessibility and affordability.
Marketing, Sales, and Client Engagement
The manager is responsible for:
- Designing and executing marketing strategies to promote microinsurance products.
- Leading financial literacy campaigns to educate communities on insurance benefits.
- Preparing and delivering client presentations to targeted groups.
- Driving product uptake, meeting sales objectives, and identifying emerging customer needs and markets.
Partnerships and Stakeholder Management
Key tasks include:
- Mapping, building, and maintaining partnerships with microfinance institutions, cooperatives, community organisations, and other stakeholders.
- Facilitating stakeholder consultations and securing partnership agreements or MOUs.
Operations, Claims, and Reporting
The role oversees:
- Operational processes including premium collection, policy issuance, and claims management.
- Monitoring key performance indicators, conducting impact assessments, and producing regular analytical and performance reports.
Integration with World Vision Kenya
The Business Insurance Manager ensures alignment of insurance products with World Vision Kenya’s child well-being priorities, collaborates with local branches, and drives growth in insurance clients within operational areas.
Staff Training and Capacity Building
The manager develops training modules and provides on-the-job coaching to promote:
- Marketing and sales skills.
- Customer service excellence.
- Social performance awareness.
- A customer-driven organisational culture.
Other Duties
Additional tasks may be assigned by the supervisor to support organisational goals and operations.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related fields. A master’s degree is an added advantage.
- Experience: 5–7 years of progressive experience in insurance or microinsurance, including product development, operations, market research, and service delivery to underserved clients.
- Certification: Professional certification in insurance (AIIK, ACII, CII) is required.
Key Competencies
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Proven ability to design, pilot, and launch insurance products across life, health, agriculture, and related lines.
- Strong knowledge of microinsurance principles, inclusive finance, market segmentation, risk analysis, and emerging microfinance trends.
- Experience in marketing, financial literacy initiatives, KPI tracking, monitoring and evaluation, and preparation of analytical reports.
- Expertise in stakeholder engagement, partnership development, and drafting MOUs.
- Hands-on experience in insurance operations including premium collection, policy issuance, claims management, and client service.
- Project management, presentation, and training skills, with familiarity in digital distribution and operational tools.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, analytical, and interpersonal skills with a customer-centric approach, integrity, and attention to detail.
