About UN Women and the EmPower Programme

UN Women is grounded in the principles of equality, dignity, and human rights as set out in the UN Charter. The organization works globally to eliminate discrimination against women and girls, promote women’s empowerment, and ensure gender equality across development, peace and security, humanitarian action, and climate resilience.

Across Asia and the Pacific, climate change is dramatically reshaping lives and livelihoods. Women are disproportionately affected—facing heightened vulnerability due to persistent inequalities in access to resources, technology, finance, and decision-making spaces. Low-carbon technologies hold immense potential to support women’s productivity, reduce time burdens, and build climate-resilient communities. However, structural barriers often prevent women from benefitting from these innovations.

To confront these challenges, UN Women and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) jointly implement the EmPower Programme, which focuses on:

  • Strengthening women’s leadership in climate action
  • Enhancing access to low-carbon technologies and financing
  • Promoting gender-responsive climate policies
  • Raising awareness through strategic communication and storytelling

Strategic communication plays a critical role in ensuring women’s voices, knowledge, and leadership remain visible and influential in climate dialogue at national, regional, and global levels. To support this mandate, a Multimedia Producer is needed to develop high-impact, accessible content that amplifies gender-climate narratives.

Role Overview

The Multimedia Producer will conceptualize, design, and produce a wide range of multimedia outputs that communicate UN Women’s strategic messages on climate resilience and gender equality. The consultant will work under the supervision of the Programme Coordination for Gender and Climate Change, with additional contract and payment support from the Social Media and Programme Visibility Consultant.

This role requires a strong creative vision, technical proficiency, an understanding of inclusive communication, and the ability to communicate nuanced issues through compelling visual storytelling.
