CHAK is Seeking a Business Development Lead – Apply Before 26 November 2025

CHAK is seeking a dynamic and strategic Business Development Lead to spearhead growth initiatives, strengthen partnerships, and expand the organization’s portfolio in health and development programs. Based in Nairobi, this role provides strategic leadership across proposal development, business intelligence, and donor engagement while supporting CHAK’s mission to deliver sustained health outcomes through community-driven, faith-based approaches.

CHAK (Christian Health Association of Kenya) is dedicated to improving health outcomes by empowering faith-based health services and development programs. The organization leverages partnerships, technical expertise, and innovative programming to strengthen health systems and enhance service delivery across Kenya.

Role Summary

The Business Development Lead will oversee CHAK’s new business initiatives, manage a portfolio of strategic projects, and enhance CHAK’s business intelligence platform. The role involves:

  • Identifying and analyzing Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs) aligned with CHAK’s program priorities.
  • Ensuring comprehensive understanding of donor requirements.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with donors, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Supporting CHAK Business Services Limited, a for-profit social enterprise, to incubate and grow business ventures.
  • Contributing to the implementation of CHAK’s Strategic and Business Plans.

Key Responsibilities

The Business Development Lead will:

  • Provide technical and proposal development leadership for assigned proposals in the Health Programs Directorate.
  • Mentor new and contributing writers on technical writing and proposal preparation.
  • Serve as lead writer on capture and proposal efforts for both restricted and unrestricted funding opportunities.
  • Develop key proposal products, including annotated outlines, executive summaries, and technical approach sections.
  • Participate in capture trips, developing scopes of work, objectives, and meeting agendas.
  • Identify potential partners for program implementation and establish local relationships during proposal development.
  • Conduct capture research to inform strategy, proposal rating, and donor engagement.
  • Lead proposal teams, coordinating with program finance, communications, contracts, and county office staff to ensure high-quality submissions.
  • Build partnerships with local and international NGOs for proposals and future program opportunities.
  • Conduct debrief sessions with proposal teams to capture lessons learned and best practices.
  • Manage business development processes, including pipeline tracking, quality review, and collaboration across divisions.
  • Support data analysis, reporting, and knowledge management to inform strategy.
  • Lead long-term and short-term strategic research to guide organizational growth.
  • Maintain partner databases, schedule meetings, and facilitate relationship management.
  • Support CHAK Business Services Limited in expanding its portfolio through strategic ventures and partnerships.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Health Economics, Business Administration, or related fields is a significant advantage.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Public Health, Development Studies, Health Economics, Project Management, International Relations, or Business Administration.
  • Basic degree in health-related fields such as Nursing, Public Health, or Clinical Medicine is advantageous.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in business development, proposal writing, fundraising, or resource mobilization in health or development sectors.
  • Proven track record of developing successful proposals and securing funding from institutional donors.
  • Practical knowledge of donor-funded project lifecycles, including capture, design, budgeting, compliance, and reporting.
  • Familiarity with health programming and faith-based or community-driven development contexts.

  • In-depth understanding of the health and development funding landscape, both locally and internationally.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary proposal teams under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills to engage donors, government, and civil society organizations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to synthesize data into compelling business cases.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with business intelligence or CRM tools is an advantage.
  • Commitment to CHAK’s mission, values, and broader goal of improving health outcomes through faith-based approaches.
  • Exceptional proposal writing, concept development, and strategic communication skills.
