Programme Overview

The International Law of Security, Peace and Sustainable Development (ILSPSD) is an interdisciplinary, mobility-based Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s programme designed to equip future global leaders with advanced knowledge and practical skills at the intersection of international law, international relations, security studies, and sustainable development.

Spanning two years and delivered by a consortium of top European universities, the programme integrates academic rigor, cultural immersion, field exposure, and professional development to prepare graduates to navigate and influence complex global challenges.

A Multi-Disciplinary Academic Foundation

What Is New for the 2026–2028 Cohort?

Following the consortium’s successful renewal of European Commission funding in 2025, ILSPSD has expanded and redesigned parts of the curriculum to enhance mobility, specialization, and academic depth.

New Programme Title

  • Updated to International Law of Security, Peace and Sustainable Development (ILSPSD), reflecting the broadened thematic scope and refined expertise across partner institutions.

Enhanced Study Tracks and Mobility Pathways

Two structured Year-2 pathways are now available:

  1. Globalization, Law and Security (Universidade Nova de Lisboa – Portugal)
    • A new full partner institution.
    • Offers a specialization in global governance, security, and legal frameworks.
  2. International Law and International Security (University of Glasgow – UK)
    • Focuses on security studies, international institutions, and applied legal analysis.

Students will study at three European universities over two years, ensuring rich cultural, academic, and professional exposure.

Expanded Summer School Portfolio

Four new summer schools are available in:

  • The United Kingdom
  • The Netherlands
  • Germany
  • Portugal

These provide deeper exploration of targeted topics such as environmental governance, global security, European law, policy innovation, and conflict resolution.

Who Can Apply?

The ILSPSD programme welcomes candidates from diverse academic backgrounds with strong motivation and global outlooks.

Minimum Academic Requirements

  • Completion of an Undergraduate degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent).
  • Entry requirements vary depending on the chosen track and university; applicants should verify details on the programme website.

Open to Global Applicants

  • Applicants from any country may apply.
  • No nationality restrictions for the study programme.
  • You may apply either for:
    • An Erasmus Mundus scholarship, or
    • A self-funded position

Scholarships and Funding

The programme offers competitive Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Scholarships, covering:

  • A monthly living stipend
