TechnoServe Fully Funded Fellowship Opportunity: Drive Agricultural Impact in East and Southern Africa (Nov 2025 – Mar 2026)

TechnoServe is seeking 2–3 exceptional professionals to join its CASA Centre of Excellence (COE) as Fellows for a transformative five-month volunteer engagement, running from November 2025 to March 2026.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful, on-the-ground impact in East and Southern Africa by supporting agricultural systems that directly affect smallholder farmers, rural livelihoods, and national development.

About the Role

The Fellowship is ideally suited for current or former management consultants from top-tier firms who are passionate about social impact, agriculture, and global development. Fellows will work closely with TechnoServe teams and regional stakeholders to design strategic roadmaps that strengthen country-level agricultural ecosystems.

These roadmaps will focus on delivering measurable improvements in:

  • Smallholder farmer incomes
  • Rural job creation
  • Business and investment growth across agricultural value chains

This is not a research or advisory position—Fellows will be deeply embedded in local contexts, engaging directly with government entities, agribusinesses, development partners, and farmers to drive high-impact interventions.

What TechnoServe Offers

While this is a volunteer position, TechnoServe will cover all essential expenses, including:

  • Round-trip international and in-country flights
  • Accommodation throughout the placement period
  • A modest per diem to cover daily living expenses

Fellows will also benefit from:

  • Exposure to complex, real-world development challenges
  • Opportunities to apply private-sector problem-solving approaches to public-good outcomes
  • Collaboration with leading experts across agriculture, development finance, and policy
  • A unique platform to accelerate careers in global development, impact investing, or public-private partnerships

Who Should Apply

This opportunity is open to individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Professional background in strategy consulting (e.g., McKinsey, BCG, Bain, or similar firms)
  • Strong interest in global development, agriculture, or emerging markets
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in dynamic, resource-constrained environments
  • Proven skills in structured problem-solving, stakeholder engagement, and strategic thinking
  • Availability to live and work in East or Southern Africa for the full duration of the Fellowship (Nov 2025 – Mar 2026)

This role is especially suited to professionals taking a sabbatical, seeking a career transition, or looking to apply their skills in a high-impact context beyond the corporate sphere.

TechnoServe is inviting 2–3 outstanding professionals to join its CASA Centre of Excellence (COE) as Fellows for a five-month, immersive experience based in East and Southern Africa. This volunteer fellowship—designed for current or former strategy consultants from top-tier firms—offers a unique opportunity to apply private-sector problem-solving skills to some of the most pressing development challenges in agriculture today.

Fellows will work closely with local stakeholders to design and implement strategic roadmaps aimed at transforming national agricultural ecosystems. Their work will directly support improvements in smallholder farmer incomes, job creation, and investment flows into agricultural value chains—laying the foundation for inclusive economic growth.

This is a hands-on, field-embedded role, ideal for professionals seeking meaningful impact at the intersection of strategy and systems change. While the fellowship is unpaid, TechnoServe covers all essential costs, including travel, housing, and per diem.

The experience offers unparalleled exposure to cross-sector collaboration, development leadership, and scalable solutions in food systems.
