Position Summary
IWMI is seeking a Climate Resilience and Social Inclusion Specialist to support two FCDO-funded projects: the Water Resilience Tracker (WRT) and Al Murunah+. This role will ensure the integration of gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) into climate resilience tools, strategies, and monitoring frameworks.
The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, capacity building, and analytical guidance to strengthen inclusive approaches in water governance, nature-based solutions, and resilience-building efforts.
Key Responsibilities
1. Research and Framework Development
- Integrate gender-responsive and socially inclusive indicators into the Water Resilience Tracker.
- Develop and adapt tools to assess how diverse groups experience water resilience and climate stressors.
- Provide technical input into the implementation of the WRT’s gender strategy.
2. Capacity Strengthening
- Train project teams and partners on GESI concepts, frameworks, and applications in water-climate research.
- Support partners with inclusive data collection, reporting, and analysis.
3. Policy Engagement & Advocacy
- Liaise with governments, NGOs, and community-based organizations to advance inclusive climate-water solutions.
- Support stakeholder dialogues and knowledge-sharing events to elevate marginalized voices in climate governance.
4. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL)
- Design GESI-sensitive monitoring tools and frameworks for project impact assessment.
- Document lessons learned, case studies, and success stories.
5. Knowledge Generation & Communications
- Contribute to policy briefs, research papers, and donor reports.
- Highlight inclusive approaches in climate resilience through publications and presentations.
Expected Deliverables
- GESI Action Plan and Guidance Note for the Water Resilience Tracker.
- Training materials and workshops delivered on GESI in climate-water research.
- GESI-sensitive M&E framework, including indicators and baseline tracking tools.
- Case studies, policy briefs, and knowledge products focused on inclusive water resilience.
- Support in compiling evidence for donor reporting and cross-learning initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Gender Studies, Sociology, Development Studies, Environmental Policy, or related social sciences.
Experience:
- At least 5–7 years of relevant experience applying GESI frameworks in climate change, water governance, or natural resource management projects.
- Proven track record of mainstreaming GESI into donor-funded, multi-stakeholder projects.
- Experience with international research institutions, NGOs, or multilateral organizations.
- Experience in index development and applying GESI indicators in climate resilience is a plus.
Skills & Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of gender analysis frameworks, intersectionality, and inclusive resilience approaches.
- Practical expertise in climate adaptation and water security from a GESI perspective.
- Ability to develop and apply GESI-sensitive MEL frameworks.
- Strong training, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Excellent writing skills for high-quality publications and policy products.
- Capacity to work effectively in diverse, multicultural, and multidisciplinary teams.
