Helen Keller International Seeks 6 Enumerators (Quantitative) for Nutrition Research in Samburu County, Kenya

Helen Keller International is inviting applications for ten short-term enumerator positions to support a formative nutrition study aimed at strengthening complementary feeding practices among caregivers of children aged 6 to 23 months.

This important research will inform food-based recommendations and behavior change strategies through the use of participatory research methods. The study will be carried out in Samburu East Sub-County, Samburu County.

This opportunity is ideal for individuals with a background in nutrition, public health, statistics, or other health sciences who are passionate about maternal and child health and experienced in field data collection. Enumerators will be instrumental in gathering high-quality, quantitative data that will contribute directly to improving nutrition outcomes for young children in the region.

Scope of Work

The selected enumerators will be engaged for a maximum of fifteen days, split across two phases. The first phase will include a five-day training scheduled for 10th to 14th November 2025, followed by five days of data collection between 17th and 21st November 2025. A second round of data collection will occur in late January 2026, with exact dates to be confirmed.

During this period, enumerators will report to designated supervisors and study team leaders, depending on their assigned responsibilities.

Enumerators will be responsible for participating in comprehensive training sessions and preparing data collection tools and materials. They will assist in compiling a key foods list, conduct a market survey, and ensure accurate sampling of markets and vendors in line with the approved study protocol. Data collection will be conducted using Survey CTO, a digital platform, and all enumerators will be expected to uphold the highest standards of data quality, integrity, and respondent confidentiality.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must possess a minimum of a diploma in nutrition, public health, statistics, or related health sciences. Prior experience conducting structured household or market surveys is essential. Applicants should demonstrate proficiency in digital data collection platforms such as Survey CTO, KoboToolbox, or ODK. Fluency in English, Kiswahili, and the local Samburu dialect is mandatory, given the community-centered nature of the research.

In addition to strong communication and interpersonal skills, candidates should have excellent organizational abilities and be available full-time for the full duration of both training and data collection activities. The ability to work independently with minimal supervision is critical, as is the capacity to meet tight deadlines without compromising data quality.

Previous research or fieldwork experience in maternal and child health, nutrition, or other community-based studies will be considered an added advantage. Basic knowledge of data analysis tools such as Excel, SPSS, or Stata is also desirable. Preference will be given to candidates who are residents of Samburu County and have familiarity with the study area.

This role offers hands-on experience in impactful public health research, contributing to improved child nutrition outcomes in underserved communities.

Application Process

Interested individuals are invited to submit a cover letter and an updated curriculum vitae (CV) as a single document to [email protected]. The subject line of the email should clearly indicate the position being applied for. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. Those who qualify will be asked to provide contact information for three referees, preferably former supervisors, along with copies of academic certificates and any other relevant supporting documents.

Helen Keller International is committed to equal opportunity and encourages qualified individuals, especially those from the study area, to apply. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a project that contributes to meaningful change in child nutrition and community health. Successful candidates will gain valuable experience working alongside a dedicated team of public health professionals while contributing to evidence that supports better nutrition programming across Kenya.

Applications must be submitted no later than 11 October 2025. Late applications will not be considered.
