Terms of Reference: SVRI Forum 2026 Communications Consultancy
Location: Global (Preference for LMIC-based teams and those with experience in Asia)
Deadline: 30 October 2025, 17:00 SAST
Contract Duration: December 2025 – November 2026

About SVRI and the Forum

The Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) is the world’s largest network advancing research on violence against women (VAW) and violence against children (VAC). SVRI creates a platform for researchers, funders, practitioners, and activists to collaborate and influence change in policy and practice.

The SVRI Forum 2026, taking place from 5–9 October 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand, is the leading global conference on research related to gender-based violence. This safe, inclusive, and dynamic event promotes knowledge-sharing, partnerships, and action on violence prevention.

To ensure the Forum reaches global audiences, the SVRI is seeking a Communications Consultant or Team to lead a comprehensive communications and PR strategy for the event.

Purpose of the Consultancy

The consultant will develop and implement a full-spectrum communications and PR strategy to ensure visibility and engagement with key audiences before, during, and after the Forum.

This includes media outreach, digital campaigns, design of communication materials, onsite press operations, and a post-event impact campaign. The goal is to amplify the Forum’s narrative, increase engagement—particularly in LMICs—and strengthen the visibility of research on VAW and VAC.

Scope of Work and Key Deliverables

1. Strategy & Narrative Development

  • Craft a communications and PR strategy targeting diverse stakeholders (researchers, funders, policymakers, media, etc.)
  • Develop key messages, quote banks, and a narrative arc aligned with the Forum timeline.

2. Media and PR

  • Create a global media outreach plan, prioritizing LMIC audiences.
  • Build relationships with media outlets and journalists.
  • Develop press kits, releases, fact sheets, and briefings.
  • Coordinate media accreditation and manage onsite/online press engagement.
  • Secure at least 4 media placements, especially in LMIC media.

3. Digital, Design & Partner Engagement

  • Develop branded communication materials (social media cards, brochures, Zoom backgrounds, etc.).
  • Lead a digital campaign across LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and BlueSky.
  • Cover all Forum webinars, producing promotion and post-event content.
  • Create partner toolkits to expand outreach.

4. Post-Forum Campaign

  • Design a highlight campaign with videos (5-min snapshot, 1.5-min shorts).
  • Repurpose content into accessible digital formats (cards, blogs, newsletters).
  • Produce a media/social media impact report.

5. Ethical and Accessible Communications

  • Align with SVRI’s safeguarding policies.
  • Ensure accessible formats (e.g. captions, alt-text, plain language).
  • Prioritize consent, inclusive imagery, and language justice.

6. Monitoring and Learning

  • Develop KPIs and an M&E plan.
  • Provide regular updates (weekly pre-Forum, daily during Forum).
  • Deliver a comprehensive post-Forum report.

7. Asset Handover

  • Organize and transfer all materials (designs, media lists, videos, etc.).
  • Share editable design files for SVRI’s ongoing use.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in communications and PR, ideally in global health, gender, or violence prevention.
  • Proven ability to secure international media coverage and pitch high-profile stories.
  • Skills in design and production of accessible communication assets.
  • Experience with survivor-centered, trauma-informed communication practices.
  • Ability to simplify complex research into accessible messaging.
  • Strong cross-cultural communication skills; experience working across time zones and continents.
  • Experience supporting large-scale international events.
  • Fluency in English; multilingual capacity is an asset.
  • Preference given to teams based in low- and middle-income countries, particularly Asia.

Ways of Working

  • Dedicated staff and clear leads must be assigned to the Forum, especially during peak periods.
  • Exclusive focus is required from August to November 2026 to ensure delivery of high-quality outputs.
  • Weekly planning meetings will begin pre-event, with daily check-ins during the Forum and a debrief afterward.
  • The consultant must report any capacity challenges within 24 hours.
