Calling all Professors Worldwide: DEA Programme – Associate Research Directors (monthly stipend of €3,400)

Application Deadline: 28 November 2025, 5:00 PM (Paris time)
Overview
The Directeurs d’Études Associés (DEA) Programme is an international mobility initiative established in 1975 by Fernand Braudel and managed by the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (FMSH).
It offers a prestigious opportunity for university professors and senior researchers in the humanities and social sciences (HSS) to undertake research stays in France lasting between four and six weeks.
Each year, the programme supports up to 30 projects, with a selection rate of approximately 30%. Applications from regions with limited access to HSS funding are particularly encouraged, as are proposals where a stay in France would meaningfully enhance scientific collaboration and field-based research.
Financial Support
Successful applicants will receive a monthly stipend of €3,400, intended to cover travel and living expenses. The FMSH will also provide assistance with visa procedures.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the DEA Programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a full university professor or hold an equivalent position in a higher education or research institution.
- Be under the age of 65 at the time of the proposed research stay.
- Propose a research project that necessitates fieldwork in France (e.g., archival research, library work, surveys).
- Projects focused solely on writing an article or a book will not be considered.
Evaluation and Selection Process
Applications are assessed by a selection committee composed of:
- Members of the FMSH Executive Board,
- Scientific directors of the foundation,
- External academic experts in relevant fields.
Evaluation Criteria Include:
- Scientific quality and methodological soundness of the project
- Justification for conducting the research in France
- Feasibility of completing the research within the 4–6 week stay
Applicants will be notified of the selection outcomes by end of March 2026.
