Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility varies depending on whether applicants are seeking a Recruitment Fellowship, Postdoctoral Fellowship, or Enhancement Fellowship. General requirements include:
- Completion of a PhD or another relevant doctoral degree (e.g., MD, DDS, DVM, PharmD) by the time of award implementation.
- Appointment at one of the partner institutions (University of Alberta, University of Calgary, or University of Lethbridge).
- No more than one prior application to the Alberta Innovates Fellowship program.
- Demonstrated academic excellence through Tri-Agency or university-based fellowship competitions, with rankings required at varying levels depending on the fellowship type.
Applicants must also be within five years of their postdoctoral appointment at a partner institution for most fellowship categories.
Application Process

The review process includes two key stages:
