About the Programme
The Graduate Trainee Programme offers a unique entry point into South Africa’s green economy by placing participants in one of several key thematic teams. Trainees will contribute to delivering high-impact projects, collaborating with strategic partners, and helping remove barriers to the adoption of viable green solutions. Each successful applicant will be assigned to a specific sector or team based on their academic background, interests, and organizational needs.
Graduate Trainee positions are available in the following areas:
- Circular Economy
- Communications
- Green Finance
- Renewable Energy
- Water & Sustainable Agriculture
Each sector team contributes to GreenCape’s mission of accelerating inclusive and sustainable economic growth through innovation, market intelligence, and ecosystem support.
Key Responsibilities
Graduate Trainees will:
- Support the implementation of sector-specific programmes and initiatives
- Engage with public and private stakeholders to gather and share information
- Assist in research, data analysis, and report writing
- Help deliver strategic project outputs under the guidance of senior team members
- Contribute to the development of market intelligence and communications material where applicable
- Align their work with GreenCape’s overarching vision to catalyze green economic development
This role provides the opportunity to grow professionally in a supportive, impact-driven environment, while actively shaping South Africa’s transition to a sustainable and low-carbon economy.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in a field related to the specific team of interest (e.g., environmental science, engineering, finance, communications, etc.)
- Proof of eligibility to work in South Africa (SA ID or valid work permit)
- A demonstrated passion for sustainability and systems thinking
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse, multidisciplinary team
Preference will be given to applicants from designated groups and individuals with disabilities, in alignment with GreenCape’s Employment Equity Plan.
