CEPS’ Energy, Resources and Climate Change (ERCC) unit is dedicated to addressing complex challenges related to climate change, energy systems, the circular economy, and geopolitics. Through its work, the unit creates forums for dialogue among EU and non-EU stakeholders, policymakers, and experts.
Position Summary: Intern – Climate Policy
CEPS is seeking a full-time Intern to join the ERCC unit for a period of six months, beginning in October 2025. The intern will work under the supervision of a CEPS researcher and contribute to projects related to EU industrial decarbonisation, clean transition pathways, carbon markets, and climate-related partnerships and policies.
This is an opportunity for an early-career professional or graduate student to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic policy environment, while contributing to high-impact research on Europe’s transition to a sustainable economy.
Main Responsibilities
The selected intern will be involved in a variety of tasks, including:
- Supporting research on EU climate and energy policy, including topics such as carbon pricing, clean technologies, and circular products
- Conducting desk research and assisting with data collection and analysis
- Supporting the organization of stakeholder engagement events, including workshops and policy roundtables
- Contributing to project deliverables and communications
- Performing other relevant administrative or research-related tasks as needed
Candidate Profile
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Enrolled in a Master’s programme for the duration of the internship (or eligible for Belgium’s CIP internship scheme as a recent graduate)
- Academic background in economics, international relations, political science, or a related discipline
- Demonstrated interest in climate policy, particularly in areas such as industrial decarbonisation, clean technologies, carbon markets, or climate partnerships
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken
- Experience conducting independent research and writing analytical material
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- A collaborative attitude, openness to feedback, and commitment to diversity and inclusion
Internship Conditions
- Duration: 6 months (full-time)
- Location: Brussels-based, with limited remote work flexibility
- Remuneration: Up to €750/month reimbursement based on justifiable expenses
- For CIP-eligible candidates, standard legal compensation will be applied
