About ADD International
ADD International is a participatory grant-maker focused on disability justice. Operating across Africa and Asia, the organisation’s vision is a world free of ableism, where disabled people have full societal participation. ADD strengthens disability justice movements by resourcing activists and enhancing leadership skills. In March 2024, ADD launched a new 10-year strategy aimed at shifting power and resources directly to grassroots disability activists. Over the next decade, it aims to deliver £25 million in long-term, unrestricted grants.
With a strong commitment to equity, ADD prioritises applications from disabled people and those with lived experience of disability. Reasonable accommodations are available throughout the recruitment and employment processes.
The Role: Purpose and Opportunity
As ADD transitions into a participatory grant-maker, its communications strategy has evolved. The Interim Communications Coordinator will play a vital role in this transformation by documenting stories from grantees, amplifying activist voices, and producing content that supports fundraising and advocacy.
The Coordinator will manage digital communications, including social media and website content, and will contribute to internal communications and public engagement campaigns.
Key Responsibilities
- Content Development:
Create accessible and engaging content for digital and print media, including newsletters and blogs. - Storytelling & Interviews:
Document the lived experiences of grantees and participants through interviews and storytelling. - Digital Media Management:
Maintain and update ADD’s social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Bluesky), monitor analytics, and support campaigns. - Website Updates:
Assist in keeping the organisation’s website current with stories, visuals, and campaign content. - Accessibility:
Ensure all communications meet accessibility standards (plain language, alt text, captions, translations). - Brand & Internal Support:
Uphold ADD’s branding, offer staff training when necessary, and manage internal communications through platforms like SharePoint. - Ethical Communications:
Lead safe and ethical image and video usage, ensuring informed consent and secure storage. - Cross-team Collaboration:
Work with fundraising, influencing, and programme teams to identify communications opportunities. - Occasional Travel:
International travel may be required for content gathering and coordination.
Safeguarding and Role Classification
This role is classified as Level 2 in ADD’s safeguarding framework, meaning some travel and contact with disability communities is expected, though not unsupervised. The organisation maintains strict safeguarding protocols to prevent harm or abuse, especially considering the power dynamics within grant-making relationships.
