The University of Leeds is currently recruiting three Climate Evidence Unit Researchers to join its growing Climate Evidence Unit (CEU), part of the Priestley Centre for Climate Futures. This is a rare opportunity to work at the forefront of research-led climate policy and innovation, collaborating with experts from across the University and engaging with external partners to produce impactful, evidence-based outputs.
Role Summary
- Job Title: Climate Evidence Unit Researcher (3 posts)
- Salary: Grade 7 (£41,064 – £48,822 per annum, pro-rata depending on experience)
- Location: University of Leeds campus, with potential for hybrid working
- Contract Type: Part-time or full-time options available
- Visa Eligibility: This role is not suitable for first-time Skilled Worker visa applicants
These roles will involve contributing to both policy-facing outputs and externally commissioned work, supporting decision-makers in accelerating decarbonisation and enhancing climate resilience.
About the Climate Evidence Unit (CEU)
The CEU is an innovative initiative that functions as both a policy unit and a business unit, providing independent, timely, and robust climate-related evidence. Following a successful pilot, the CEU is expanding to increase its capacity to serve public, private, and third-sector organisations.
Core CEU functions include:
- Producing rapid evidence reviews, policy analysis, scenario modelling, and specialised reports
- Delivering contracted research, consultancy, peer reviews, and expert advice
- Publishing publicly accessible outputs designed to influence and inform policy decisions nationally and internationally
The CEU works closely with academic experts from across disciplines at the University of Leeds, translating world-leading research into actionable insights.
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicants will:
- Collaborate with university researchers and external partners to deliver bespoke climate evidence projects
- Translate academic research into accessible outputs for decision-makers
- Support the CEU’s dual function as a provider of public-facing policy outputs and commercially contracted work
- Represent the Priestley Centre externally and build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders
- Contribute to the strategic development of the CEU and its long-term goals
Candidate Profile
Ideal candidates will bring:
- Demonstrated expertise in climate change research, either in mitigation or adaptation
- Experience in working within interdisciplinary teams
- A strong track record in translating complex research into practical outputs for non-academic audiences
- Confidence in engaging with stakeholders from public, private, and third-sector organisations
- A commitment to collaborative, evidence-based approaches to climate policy
