
Strengthening Peace, Resilience, and Disaster Risk Reduction in the Horn of Africa
DanChurchAid (DCA) Kenya is recruiting qualified professionals for two strategic positions under the EU-funded SPREAD Project, which seeks to enhance peacebuilding, climate and disaster resilience, and cross-border cooperation in communities across South Omo (Ethiopia), Turkana (Kenya), and Eastern Equatoria (South Sudan).
These roles will be based in Nairobi, Kenya, with frequent regional travel. Both are national positions open to Kenyan citizens or those with the legal right to work in Kenya.
1. Resilience Specialist
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Duration: 15 months
The Resilience Specialist will provide technical leadership on the project’s resilience programming. Reporting to the Consortium Project Manager and supported by global resilience advisors, the specialist will play a central role in strengthening technical capacity, aligning programming with emerging evidence and regional frameworks, and building cohesive strategies across country teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, coordination, and implementation of the resilience component across Kenya, Ethiopia, and South Sudan.
- Provide technical capacity-building and training support to partners and staff across the three countries.
- Facilitate and convene monthly meetings of the Consortium Resilience Working Group, ensuring follow-up and documentation.
- Align programming with DCA’s strategic priorities and regional resilience frameworks.
- Support the development of technical reports, policy briefs, and knowledge sharing products.
- Engage in partner and stakeholder coordination to align with ongoing regional resilience initiatives and policies.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in international development, environmental science, or related fields.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in resilience programming within development or humanitarian contexts, preferably in the Horn of Africa.
- Knowledge of agro-pastoral systems, natural resource management, and climate change adaptation.
- Strong coordination skills across cross-border, multi-country, and multi-stakeholder settings.
- Experience with conflict-sensitive approaches, gender-responsive programming, and rights-based frameworks.
2. Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Officer
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Duration: 15 months
The MEAL Officer will oversee the monitoring and evaluation systems of the SPREAD Project. This role involves ensuring data-driven decision-making, supporting project learning and accountability, and coordinating MEAL functions across consortium partners in the three countries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage MEAL tools and frameworks in line with the project’s results framework.
- Lead data collection, analysis, visualization, and reporting using tools such as Excel, SPSS, Power BI, NVIVO, and Kobo.
- Support timely project reviews, outcome harvesting, mid-term reviews, and quality assurance processes.
- Ensure gender, disability, and age-disaggregated data are integrated into all data systems.
- Coordinate closely with partner MEAL focal points to ensure harmonization of approaches and shared learning.
- Support capacity-building for project staff and partners on MEAL tools and methodologies.
- Contribute to evaluation design, consultant oversight, and review of external evaluation deliverables.
Required Qualifications:
- Degree in statistics, ICT, development studies, or a related field. A master’s degree is a strong asset.
- Minimum of 5 years of MEAL experience, ideally within INGOs and across complex, multi-country projects.
- Proven experience in donor reporting, particularly for EU-funded projects.
- Demonstrated skills in both qualitative and quantitative data management, analysis, and visual presentation.
- Familiarity with accountability frameworks, including the Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on capacity-building and mentoring.
