The Opportunity
The University of Nottingham School of Medicine is currently recruiting two Clinical Curriculum Fellows to contribute to the ongoing enhancement and delivery of the undergraduate medical programme. These fixed-term roles provide a valuable opportunity to gain experience in medical education, curriculum design, clinical teaching, and educational leadership. They are ideal for early-career doctors seeking a focused year in education, alongside opportunities for development in academic and clinical contexts.
The successful candidates will work closely with the School’s Education Centre to support both the existing clinical curriculum and the development of a new programme scheduled for launch in 2026.
Key Responsibilities
The Clinical Curriculum Fellows will be instrumental in designing, delivering, and supporting centralised clinical teaching resources. Responsibilities will include:
- Delivering high-quality, evidence-informed teaching in both classroom and clinical settings.
- Assisting in the creation and enhancement of curriculum content for undergraduate medical students.
- Supporting the training of clinical educators across NHS Trust placements.
- Collaborating with administrative and academic teams to ensure smooth course delivery and student support.
- Contributing to assessments and supporting students who may be experiencing difficulties.
- Participating in wider School activities relating to medical education, including curriculum review, educational strategy, and pedagogical innovation.
These roles offer hands-on involvement in shaping the next generation of doctors and provide rich experience in the areas of curriculum development, assessment, student mentorship, and faculty support.
Candidate Profile
Essential Requirements:
- A recognised medical degree (MBBS or equivalent).
- Successful completion of UK Foundation Training (or equivalent experience internationally).
- Full General Medical Council (GMC) registration with a current license to practise.
- A strong interest in medical education with a desire to gain experience in curriculum development and teaching.
- Demonstrated ability to design and deliver up-to-date course materials, using a variety of teaching and learning methods.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts to both novice learners and expert colleagues.
- High-level analytical thinking with creativity and conceptual understanding.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, engage students, and contribute effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Desirable Experience and Knowledge:
- Prior experience in undergraduate or postgraduate medical education.
- Understanding of educational principles and pedagogy in healthcare settings.
- Familiarity with teaching tools, digital learning platforms, and assessment methods.
- Evidence of leadership potential and initiative in educational or clinical contexts.
