Applications Now Open for FIFA World Cup 26™ Volunteer Programme

The application window for the FIFA World Cup 26™ Volunteer Programme has officially opened, marking the launch of what is set to become the largest volunteer initiative in FIFA’s history. With an estimated 65,000 volunteers to be recruited, this programme represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to support the delivery of the biggest FIFA World Cup™ to date.

FIFA has announced that these volunteers will form the core of the FIFA Volunteer Community, a group now surpassing one million members worldwide. Their collective energy and commitment will be essential to the success of this expanded global event, which features a 48-team format and spans 16 Host Cities across Canada, Mexico, and the United States over six weeks.

Volunteers will play a vital role in more than 23 functional areas, including but not limited to stadium operations, training venues, airports, hotels, fan engagement spaces, and city-wide activations. This includes support in logistics, accreditation, media, hospitality, transport, and language services. Their responsibilities will ensure that the fan experience, team coordination, and overall tournament operations run smoothly at every touchpoint.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasised the importance of volunteers in his official statement:

“Volunteers are the heart, soul and smile of FIFA tournaments. They get to show off their local pride, gain a behind-the-scenes view of the tournament and make memories and friendships that can last a lifetime, while supporting a historic event. We hope interested individuals will join us as we welcome the world to North America in 2026.”

This call for volunteers is not just a logistical need—it’s an open invitation to participate in a moment of global unity, celebration, and legacy-building. With millions of fans expected to travel across the three host nations, volunteers will serve as ambassadors for their cities, providing a warm welcome to international guests and contributing to an unforgettable experience for all involved.

Craig Collins, a long-time supporter and previous volunteer at the 1994 FIFA World Cup USA™ and the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™ in Atlanta, officially became the one-millionth member of the FIFA Volunteer Community in April 2025. Reflecting on the impact of the programme, Collins remarked:

“I’m so proud to be part of this moment – not just for FIFA, but for my city. I’m excited to apply for the 2026 volunteer programme and hope to show off my community to the world once more.”

FIFA is actively encouraging individuals from all walks of life to apply. Whether applicants are students, retirees, first-time volunteers, or experienced event staff, the programme is open to all who share a passion for football, a spirit of service, and a desire to be part of something bigger. Diversity and inclusion are central to the recruitment process, with an emphasis on welcoming volunteers of different backgrounds, ages, abilities, and languages.

Eligibility criteria are simple:

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older at the time of application
  • They must be eligible to volunteer in their respective host country
  • A good command of English is essential
  • In Mexico, proficiency in Spanish and English is desirable
  • In Canada, French language skills are considered an asset
  • Knowledge of additional languages is welcomed

Crucially, no prior volunteering experience is required. FIFA provides comprehensive training, with selected applicants first participating in Volunteer Team Tryouts, set to begin in October 2025. Those accepted will then undergo training in March 2026, just ahead of the official opening of the tournament on 11 June 2026, with the inaugural match hosted in Mexico City.

The volunteer programme offers a unique opportunity for personal growth, cultural exchange, and meaningful contribution to a global sporting event. It also provides unparalleled access to behind-the-scenes operations, networking opportunities, and a front-row seat to history in the making.
