Africa Uncensored (AUC) is Calling for Trainers: 2025 Investigate 101-2 Training Program

Africa Uncensored (AUC), a leading independent investigative journalism house, is seeking experienced media professionals and subject matter experts to serve as trainers and mentors for the upcoming edition of the Investigate 101-2 Training Program. This initiative is part of the “Journalism for Democracy” project under ForumCiv’s Wajibu Wetu Programme.
The call invites applications from individuals with a strong commitment to democratic values, accountability journalism, mentorship, and media integrity. Trainers will help nurture the next generation of investigative journalists by delivering hands-on instruction, guiding real-world reporting, and mentoring promising early-career reporters.
About the Investigate 101-2 Program
Investigate 101-2 is a practical capacity-building initiative designed to equip early-career journalists in Kenya with the tools and values essential for impactful investigative journalism. The program strengthens ethical reporting practices and promotes community-centered storytelling focused on transparency and social justice.
Through structured workshops and a mentorship phase, participants will learn how to develop, research, and produce high-quality investigative stories in collaboration with seasoned media professionals. The initiative also fosters connections with both legacy media and digital platforms, enhancing long-term media sustainability and civic engagement.
Responsibilities of Selected Trainers
Trainers selected for the program will:
- Design and deliver engaging, practical training sessions in their area of expertise
- Facilitate group work, case studies, and walkthroughs of real investigative stories
- Share tools, resources, and frameworks relevant to ethical and impactful journalism
- Provide post-training mentorship (virtually) to participants from September through November 2025
Training Focus Areas
Africa Uncensored is seeking facilitators with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Investigative Reporting Techniques: Story identification, verification, and sourcing
- Digital and Open Source Research: Tools and strategies for online investigations
- Media Ethics: Legal, ethical, and professional frameworks for journalists
- Safety and Security: Protecting journalists in high-risk environments
- Story Development and Writing: Narrative building and fact structuring
- Multiplatform Journalism: Producing for print, digital, radio, and video
- Pitching and Publishing: Crafting compelling pitches and navigating editorial processes
Who Should Apply
This opportunity is open to:
- Experienced investigative journalists or editors with a strong body of published work
- Media trainers with experience designing and delivering journalism workshops
- Experts in digital security, data journalism, media law, or civic engagement
- Individuals who are passionate about mentorship, youth empowerment, and strengthening democratic values through journalism

Africa Uncensored will cover logistical costs for selected trainers during the in-person training in Nairobi.
