The Opportunity: Head of Security Training Programmes
Plan International is seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Security Training Programmes to lead global efforts in strengthening safety and security training across its operations. Based in a flexible global location, the successful candidate will join the Global Safety and Security Team and play a critical role in enabling safe program delivery, especially in high-risk and complex contexts.
This position requires a forward-thinking professional with strong training development skills and deep security risk management knowledge. The role will be essential in enhancing staff safety, supporting local security teams, and embedding an inclusive, proactive approach to risk across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and global delivery of security training courses and workshops, tailored to Plan International’s operational needs.
- Create advanced training materials covering a range of technical topics, including trauma response, first aid, crisis management, and context-specific risk mitigation.
- Oversee certification and capacity building of regional and country-level trainers.
- Manage induction and ongoing development programmes for security managers worldwide.
- Provide remote and in-person support to regional and country teams to strengthen their security readiness and crisis response capabilities.
- Drive organizational learning by integrating feedback and lessons learned into future training initiatives.
- Promote inclusive and intersectional approaches to security that consider the diverse experiences of staff and communities.
- Champion Plan International’s Security for All initiative, reinforcing a positive and participatory security culture across all locations.
Candidate Profile
Plan International is looking for a highly skilled security professional with a proven ability to lead global training strategies and build operational security capacity. The successful candidate will combine subject matter expertise with strong interpersonal and instructional skills.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Demonstrated experience developing and delivering security training content, particularly for international humanitarian or development organizations.
- In-depth understanding of security risk management practices in fragile or high-risk environments.
- Proven background in supporting international operations in complex or conflict-affected areas.
- Experience working within INGOs or multilateral agencies, and leading geographically dispersed teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information to diverse audiences.
- Confident in constructively challenging decisions and practices to strengthen security outcomes.
- Highly organized, with a strong ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Proficiency in common IT platforms, including Microsoft Office suite.
Languages
- Fluency in English is required.
- Proficiency in French or Spanish is highly desirable.
Location and Employment Terms
This is a globally flexible role, open to candidates who have existing legal rights to work in one of Plan International’s offices. Please note that this is not an expatriate or international relocation role. Terms of employment will align with the hosting country’s local Plan office policies and compensation frameworks.
