African Women’s Rights Advocates (AWRA) is a pan-African network committed to advancing the rights, leadership, and liberation of African women and girls. Rooted in feminist principles, AWRA brings together advocates, organisers, and strategists working to transform structural inequalities and amplify the voices of African women in all spheres of life. As AWRA prepares for a new phase of organisational development and influence, this consultancy will play a central role in shaping its internal coherence and strategic direction.

The Opportunity

AWRA seeks an Organisational Development & Strategy Consultant to strengthen the organisation’s internal systems, support strategic alignment, and contribute to shaping a resilient, agile structure that reflects AWRA’s vision, values, and growth ambitions.

The consultant will work closely with AWRA leadership and team members to:

  • Review and assess the current organisational structure, practices, and strategy.
  • Facilitate strategic planning processes that are inclusive, reflective, and forward-thinking.
  • Propose practical, values-aligned solutions for operational efficiency and institutional sustainability.

Key Details

  • Position Title: Organisational Development & Strategy Consultant
  • Location: Remote (open to applicants globally; African women especially encouraged)
  • Duration: 20 working days, to be completed between September and December 2025
  • Start Date: 1st September 2025
  • Application Deadline: 15th August 2025

Scope of Work

The consultant will be expected to deliver on the following core objectives:

  • Conduct a diagnostic review of AWRA’s current organisational setup, including roles, responsibilities, and decision-making processes.
  • Facilitate strategic conversations to clarify AWRA’s medium-to-long-term goals, theory of change, and operational roadmap.
  • Support the co-creation of updated strategic and organisational development documents.
  • Provide practical recommendations for strengthening governance, staffing, and systems in alignment with AWRA’s feminist values.
  • Identify opportunities for increased impact, efficiency, and sustainability.

Deliverables may include:

  • Organisational review report
  • Updated or refined strategic framework
  • Recommendations for improved organisational architecture
  • Facilitation of workshops or planning sessions

Consultant Profile

The ideal consultant will bring:

  • Proven experience in organisational development, strategic planning, and/or nonprofit consultancy, preferably within feminist or rights-based organisations.
  • A strong understanding of African feminist movements, intersectionality, and decolonial approaches to leadership and governance.
  • Exceptional facilitation, analysis, and communication skills.
  • A collaborative, inclusive approach that centres the voices and leadership of African women.
