Tender Opportunity: IDH Seeks Partners to Strengthen Farmer Data Collection Across Africa (2026–2030)

The Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH) has announced a new tender opportunity inviting qualified partners to support a multi-year effort to collect high-quality, standardized data from smallholder farmers across Africa. Running from 2026 to 2030, this initiative is a core part of IDH’s broader strategy to build inclusive, climate-resilient, and data-driven food systems on the continent.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for experienced organizations to contribute to the transformation of African agriculture through improved data systems, fostering resilience and equity for smallholder farmers.

Purpose of the Tender

IDH is committed to building stronger agricultural systems by addressing the persistent data gaps that limit impact in the field. Reliable and standardised farmer data is essential to designing effective interventions, measuring progress, and supporting farmers’ adaptation to both climate and market challenges. This tender will directly support the development of robust data infrastructure across at least five African countries.

Who Should Apply?

The tender is open to individual firms or consortia with a strong track record in farmer-level data collection, particularly those that integrate innovative technologies and proven methodologies into their approach.

Ideal applicants will demonstrate:

  • Operational capacity across multiple African countries
  • Experience in working with smallholder farmers
  • Capability in deploying digital tools and platforms for data collection
  • Robust data verification and quality assurance systems
  • A commitment to inclusion, transparency, and farmer empowerment

Applicants with expertise in gender-sensitive and climate-smart data collection practices are especially encouraged to apply.

Why It Matters

This initiative supports the co-creation of future-ready agricultural systems. Smallholder farmers are central to Africa’s food security, yet they often lack access to data-driven support that can improve their productivity, sustainability, and resilience. By enabling more accurate, inclusive, and comprehensive data collection, the selected service providers will play a pivotal role in helping farmers adapt to rapidly changing environmental and economic conditions.

In addition, the resulting data will inform IDH’s programmatic decisions, policy recommendations, and investment strategies, ensuring that interventions are evidence-based and aligned with local realities.

Making an Impact

Through this initiative, IDH aims to create a more equitable and sustainable agricultural landscape in Africa.
