Funded Traineeship for Young Graduates at the EU Delegation to India 2025/26 – Trade and Economic Affairs Section

The Delegation of the European Union to India, located in New Delhi, invites applications from recent graduates for a funded traineeship opportunity in the Trade and Economic Affairs Section. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain firsthand experience in EU-India relations, especially in the fields of trade, investment, and policy cooperation.
The traineeship will last for up to six months, starting between October and December 2025. The deadline for submitting applications is 29 August 2025.
About the Traineeship
The Trade and Economic Affairs Section of the EU Delegation is a dynamic team of eight professionals from various national backgrounds. The Section covers a wide range of responsibilities, including trade negotiations, market access, sustainability, digital trade, agriculture, food safety, financial regulations, taxation, health, migration, and mobility.
The EU is India’s largest trading partner. Currently, the EU and India are negotiating a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), an Investment Protection Agreement, and a Geographical Indications Agreement. The Delegation also provides support to the EU-India Trade and Technology Council, a strategic platform for deepening bilateral cooperation on trade and technology.
Trainees will gain valuable insights into these complex negotiations and the workings of EU external trade policy, while also contributing to the organization of high-level visits and the implementation of EU-funded projects related to trade.
Main Responsibilities
The selected trainee will support the Trade and Economic Affairs Section in a variety of tasks, including:
- Monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on trade and investment issues, digital policies, and mobility
- Assisting in the organization of events, high-level visits, and coordination meetings
- Supporting the implementation of EU-funded trade-related projects
- Taking notes and reporting on coordination meetings with EU Member States
- Contributing to briefings and internal reporting as needed

Candidate Profile
Eligibility and Requirements:
- Applicants must currently reside in India, preferably in New Delhi or nearby regions
- A university degree (minimum BA level) in economics, political science, or international relations
- Demonstrated interest in trade policy, international affairs, or EU external relations
- Fluency in English (spoken and written)
- Ability to work in a multicultural and fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Computer proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent writing and presentation abilities
Desirable Experience:
- Previous internships or work experience in research institutes, government bodies, startups, or EU institutions will be considered an asset

- Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to help cover living expenses.
- Trainees are responsible for visa, travel, insurance, and accommodation costs.

EU Citizens:
Must provide evidence of insurance coverage against pandemic-related risks and repatriation, and hold a valid visa/residency permit for the duration of the traineeship, in accordance with Indian immigration law.
