Call for Applications: 25th African Nutrition Leadership Programme (ANLP)

Programme Dates: 10–20 March 2026
Application Deadline: 5 September 2025, 13:00 CAT
Location: South Africa

The African Nutrition Leadership Programme (ANLP) is pleased to announce the opening of applications for its 25th annual training, scheduled for 10 to 20 March 2026. This landmark edition of the programme invites mid-career professionals working in nutrition and related fields to take part in a highly interactive and transformative leadership journey.

The ANLP has established itself as a premier leadership development initiative on the African continent, with a mission to nurture and empower the next generation of nutrition leaders. The programme is designed to strengthen both personal and professional leadership capacities in the fields of nutrition, public health, food systems, and community development.

Who Should Apply?

Applications are welcomed from mid-career professionals residing and working in Africa. This includes individuals working in government institutions, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), international development agencies, research institutions, or academic settings. Ideal candidates should have at least five years of relevant professional experience and demonstrate both a passion for nutrition and the potential for leadership.

While ANLP welcomes participants from across Africa, it especially encourages applications from underrepresented regions such as:

  • Indian Ocean Islands
  • Northern Nigeria
  • Tunisia
  • Algeria
  • Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)

Programme Format and Content

The 25th ANLP will be fully residential and in-person, limited to a maximum of 30 participants to ensure a high-quality, immersive learning experience. The course will be conducted in English, and participants are expected to have a strong command of the language.

This 10-day intensive programme focuses on developing leadership skills through experiential learning. It is not a technical nutrition course, but rather a platform that blends leadership theory with personal growth and practical application.

Key focus areas include:

  • Leadership styles and emotional intelligence
  • Effective communication and conflict resolution
  • Strategic thinking and systems leadership
  • Team dynamics and collaborative problem solving
  • Networking and influence
  • Personal reflection and career development

The programme offers a transformative experience, where participants engage deeply with themselves and others, resulting in a renewed sense of purpose and strengthened confidence to lead effectively in their roles.

Why Join ANLP?

Graduates of the ANLP leave with:

  • Enhanced self-awareness and leadership skills
  • A robust, pan-African professional network
  • Practical strategies to drive change in their organisations and communities
  • A deeper understanding of leadership challenges within complex systems

Many alumni have gone on to take up key leadership positions in ministries of health, international agencies, research centres, and civil society.

Programme Fees and Financial Support

The total cost for participation in the 10-day programme is €1,800 (approximately $2,076). This includes:

  • Accommodation (Bed & Breakfast): €640 ($739)
  • Meals (Lunch & Dinner): €170 ($196)
  • Conference Package (Venue, Tea Breaks, AV): €100 ($115)
  • Transport (OR Tambo International Airport to Venue, Return): €100 ($115)
  • Course Facilitation and Materials: €790 ($911)

Please note: Personal expenses such as travel to Johannesburg, insurance, international flights, and incidental costs (e.g., drinks and phone calls) are not included.

A limited number of partial grants are available to selected participants. These can be applied for after the initial selection process has been completed.

Application Process

Applications close on 5 September 2025 at 13:00 CAT. Due to high demand and limited spots, early applications are encouraged. Applicants should be prepared to demonstrate leadership potential, professional experience, and a strong commitment to advancing nutrition in Africa.

All applications must be submitted online. For more information and to apply, please visit ANLP official website.

Should interest exceed expectations, the ANLP team may consider organising a second 10-day programme later in 2026.

Final Message

The African Nutrition Leadership Programme continues to invest in individuals committed to leading change. As the programme celebrates its 25th edition, the ANLP team looks forward to welcoming a diverse cohort of talented professionals ready to grow, lead, and contribute to Africa’s nutrition transformation.
