The GYA is Now Accepting Applications for its 2025 Membership Cohort (Open to Applicants Worldwide)

Are you an exceptional early-career researcher, scientist, or scholar eager to shape the future of global science and society? If your answer is yes, then the Global Young Academy (GYA) wants to hear from you.
The GYA is now accepting applications for its 2025 membership cohort—and the opportunity is nothing short of transformational. Open to outstanding early-career researchers (ECRs) from all disciplines and all countries, the GYA offers a unique space to contribute to global conversations at the crossroads of science, policy, and societal progress.
At its core, the Global Young Academy is more than an academic body—it’s a thriving community. It’s where new ideas meet old problems, where collaboration replaces competition, and where young scientists and scholars are empowered to act as catalysts for change.
As Anindita Bhadra, a GYA member from India and expert in Animal Behaviour, beautifully puts it:
“The GYA is an ever-growing family of bright young minds where disciplines, nationalities, cultures and ideas mingle, and long-lasting bonds of fellowship are established. It is a tapestry with a niche for each one, but emerging as a beautiful whole.”
What Is the Global Young Academy?
Founded in 2010, the GYA brings together young researchers who are passionate about using science to improve the world. With a cap of 200 members at any time, the academy ensures that its community remains active, agile, and deeply engaged. Members typically serve for a five-year term, during which they contribute to the GYA’s mission: giving a voice to early-career scientists around the world and fostering international, interdisciplinary dialogue.
The academy is structured to allow its members to lead projects, build partnerships, and shape initiatives that address urgent global challenges—ranging from climate change and science diplomacy to open science, equity in education, and beyond.
Why Join?
Becoming a GYA member opens doors to extraordinary opportunities. As part of this global network, you’ll:
- Collaborate internationally across academic and geographic borders

- Strengthen your leadership skills through cross-cultural teamwork
- Gain visibility and amplify your voice in the global research ecosystem

Beyond professional development, many members describe the GYA as a home a place to find camaraderie, mentorship, and shared purpose among other early-career researchers who believe science should serve the public good.
