This project addresses one of the most pressing global health threats — antimicrobial resistance — with a specific focus on the role of wastewater irrigation in spreading resistant bacteria. The selected interns will contribute to multidisciplinary research efforts aiming to generate evidence-based solutions for AMR control in urban farming systems.

Internship Objectives

Interns will be actively involved in both laboratory and field-based research activities. Specific responsibilities include:

<
  • Conducting microbiological analysis of environmental and food samples
  • Isolating and identifying resistant bacterial strains from various sources
  • Performing antibiotic susceptibility testing using standardized protocols
  • Participating in fieldwork and supporting community engagement
  • Assisting with quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis
  • Drafting scientific reports and contributing to knowledge dissemination

This internship provides an exceptional opportunity for aspiring microbiologists to gain hands-on research experience in an international-quality laboratory while contributing to a project of regional and global relevance.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered:

  • Successful completion of the first year of Master’s studies in Microbiology or a closely related field, with a GPA that qualifies for entry into the second year.
  • Demonstrated understanding of bacterial culture, basic microbiological techniques, and antibiotic resistance testing.
  • Strong motivation, rigor, and ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
  • A clear interest in public health, environmental microbiology, or AMR research.
  • Previous lab experience or familiarity with research procedures will be considered an asset.
