Climate Finance Academy 2025: Applications Now Open

The Finance & Markets Working Group of YOUNGO, the official youth constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), is now accepting applications for the Climate Finance Academy 2025. This youth-led, global capacity-building initiative is designed to empower young professionals and emerging leaders with a strong foundation in international climate finance.

Over the course of three months, the Academy will provide 200 selected participants from around the world with in-depth training on complex financial systems that support global climate action. This highly competitive program seeks to ensure that young voices are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to participate meaningfully in climate finance discourse, policymaking, and project implementation.

About the Program

The Climate Finance Academy focuses on demystifying key components of international climate finance while advancing a framework grounded in equity, access, and sustainability. Sessions are curated and delivered by experienced practitioners, policy experts, and youth leaders who are actively engaged in shaping the future of global finance for climate action.

Participants will engage in expert-led modules on a range of critical areas, including:

Each module will include technical briefings, real-world case studies, and interactive discussions to foster practical understanding and collaborative learning.

Who Should Apply

The program is open to young people aged 18 to 35 from all regions and backgrounds. Ideal candidates include students, early-career professionals, grassroots organizers, and youth advocates with a demonstrated interest in climate action, finance, policy, or sustainable development.

There is no cost to participate in the Academy. The selection process aims to ensure regional, gender, and thematic diversity, with a particular focus on uplifting voices from historically marginalized and underrepresented communities.

Program Timeline

  • Application Deadline: August 13, 2025
  • Program Duration: Three months (September – December 2025)
  • Format: Virtual, with live sessions and self-paced learning materials

Throughout the program, participants will be expected to attend weekly sessions, complete assignments, and contribute to discussions and peer-learning activities. At the end of the Academy, graduates will receive a Certificate of Completion and be welcomed into a growing global alumni network committed to advancing climate justice and finance reform.

Why This Matters

With trillions of dollars flowing through international climate finance mechanisms, ensuring that these resources reach the communities most in need—and are used effectively—is a global imperative. However, the systems that govern climate finance are often opaque and exclusionary. The Climate Finance Academy exists to challenge that by building a new generation of informed, critical, and engaged leaders who can influence decision-making and advocate for just outcomes.

By participating in this program, young leaders will not only gain technical expertise but also become part of a global youth movement driving accountability and transformation in climate finance.
