UNDP Digital Transformation Internship: Global Call for 2025 (Remote)

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is currently inviting applications for its Digital Transformation Internship programme for 2025. This remote, full-time internship spans three months and is open to candidates worldwide. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis through August 31, 2025, with flexible start dates. Selected applicants may be contacted anytime between March and the end of the year.

Digital Transformation at UNDP

Since the launch of its inaugural Digital Strategy in 2019, UNDP has pursued an ambitious transformation agenda. The current Digital Strategy (2022–2025) envisions a world where digital technology empowers people and protects the planet. The Chief Digital Office (CDO) leads this strategy, integrating digital innovation into development work and strengthening digital ecosystems with government partners.

Internship Focus Areas

UNDP seeks motivated interns to support a variety of workstreams on either a part-time or full-time basis. Areas of engagement include:

1. Inclusive Digital Ecosystems

  • Supporting rights-based, inclusive digital development initiatives.
  • Contributing to the implementation of secure, ethical digital public infrastructure.
  • Conducting research on inclusive connectivity, ethical AI, and digital inclusion.
  • Managing digital knowledge resources and coordinating with UNDP units.
  • Assisting in advocacy through social media content, blogs, and talking points.

2. Country Office Support & Capacity Building

  • Aiding in the assessment of digital and AI readiness.
  • Supporting national data and AI strategy development.
  • Contributing to digital skills training and AI initiatives like green computing and trust-building.
  • Developing tools to empower inclusive digital government practices.

3. Strategy Development & Implementation

  • Conducting research for thought leadership and global positioning.
  • Managing UNDP’s digital guides and capacity-building tools.
  • Supporting the Chief Digital Officer’s strategic engagements and speech preparation.
  • Evaluating the implementation of the Digital Strategy using data and feedback loops.

4. Business Operations

  • Assisting in finance, procurement, and internal process improvements.
  • Supporting event coordination, including meetings and travel logistics.
  • Documenting best practices and recommending operational efficiencies.

5. Strategic Communications & Partnerships

  • Researching potential partnerships with tech companies, NGOs, and foundations.
  • Drafting communications materials, proposals, and strategic outreach documents.
  • Supporting participation in global and UN-level digital discussions.
  • Contributing to strategic messaging and digital content creation.

6. Product Design and AI Tools

  • Participating in the design and testing of digital products like platforms and AI applications.
  • Assisting in proposal development and collaboration with technical teams.
  • Supporting implementation of digital tools in country programmes.

7. Change Management

  • Facilitating knowledge exchange through Communities of Practice.
  • Supporting internal communications and content creation.
  • Contributing to integration of digital tools across programmes.

Candidate Profile

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet one of the following:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate program (second university degree or higher).
  • Be in the final year of an undergraduate programme.
  • Have recently graduated and be able to begin the internship within one year of graduation.

Internship Conditions

UNDP offers a monthly stipend based on location and working hours. Part-time and remote internships are prorated. Other expenses (e.g., insurance, travel) are borne by the intern or their sponsor. Interns must provide proof of health insurance and are not considered UNDP staff.
