2026 Henry Arnhold Fellowship – Now Open for Applications

The Henry Arnhold Fellowship, hosted by the Mulago Foundation, is a one-year program supporting entrepreneurial leaders tackling major climate, conservation, and environmental challenges. Designed for early-stage but high-potential solutions, the fellowship helps leaders refine their design for impact and develop scalable strategies to reach exponential impact.

Until now, fellows were selected exclusively by nomination. For the first time, Mulago is opening the application process to the public to discover bold new ideas that might otherwise be missed.

Who Should Apply?

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be the founder and most senior decision-maker (e.g., CEO or Executive Director).
  • Work full-time (30+ hours/week) on the solution.
  • Lead a legally established entity or one in the process of formal registration, including:
    • A nonprofit (e.g., U.S. 501(c)(3) or global equivalent),
    • A mission-driven for-profit (e.g., B Corp, C Corp),
    • Or a fiscally sponsored entity with a clear plan to become independent soon.
  • Present a solution capable of achieving exponential impact over time.

Ideas may be either nonprofit or for-profit. Mulago has a strong preference for solutions that intertwine human well-being and environmental sustainability.

What the Fellowship Offers

  • A $100,000 unrestricted grant disbursed up front.
  • Two immersive, week-long retreats (starting June 2026 and concluding a year later).
  • Year-long, hands-on support from the Mulago team.
  • Consideration for long-term Mulago portfolio funding.
  • Peer learning and exchange with past fellows—leaders of impactful ventures like Global Forest Watch, Blue Ventures, Farmers for Forests, and Planet Indonesia.

What Mulago Looks For

Mulago prioritizes ideas with:

  • Clarity of problem and solution.
  • Scalability: potential to grow impact exponentially.
  • Strong early leadership: grounded in real-world experience, not just theory.
  • Tight integration between environmental and human well-being.

Applications are brief by design, to respect the time constraints of founders. Clarity of thinking is more important than polish.

Timeline

  • Deadline: August 28, 2025 (applications reviewed on a rolling basis).
  • Interviews: July to September 2025 (3–4 short conversations with the Mulago team).
  • Fellows Announced: Early 2026.
  • Program Start: June 2026 (retreat planned for Africa).
