Apply Now: Prestigious Fully-Funded Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships 2026–2027

The Swiss Confederation is now inviting applications for the 2026–2027 Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships, supporting international exchange and research collaboration between Switzerland and 183 countries.

The scholarships are awarded by the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS) and are primarily intended for early-career researchers (ECRs) and artists seeking postgraduate studies in Switzerland.

Purpose of the Scholarships

These scholarships aim to:

  • Strengthen international research cooperation.
  • Support young professionals and artists to pursue advanced academic or artistic work in Switzerland.
  • Promote academic excellence, innovation, and mutual understanding.

Types of Scholarships Offered

1. Research Scholarships

Available to postgraduate researchers in any academic field who wish to:

  • Conduct research or continue doctoral/postdoctoral studies at:
    • Swiss cantonal universities
    • Universities of applied sciences
    • Federal Institutes of Technology (ETH Zurich or EPFL)
    • ETH-domain research institutes (PSI, WSL, Empa, or Eawag)

Note: Applicants must secure a willing academic supervisor at a host institution in Switzerland before applying.

  • Research Fellowships (for non-degree academic research)

2. Art Scholarships

For applicants wishing to pursue a first Master’s degree in arts at a Swiss university or conservatory.

Note: Art scholarships are only open to select countries.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must:

  • Be nationals of one of the 183 eligible countries.
  • Hold at least a Master’s degree (or equivalent) for research/postdoc scholarships.
  • Have completed their Bachelor’s degree for art scholarships.
  • Demonstrate academic excellence and a compelling research or artistic proposal.

How to Apply

  • Applications open: August 4, 2025
  • Download the country-specific guidelines and application package from the official website or your local Swiss Embassy.
  • Submit your complete application to the Swiss diplomatic representation in your country.
  • Ensure your application includes:
    • A detailed research or artistic proposal
    • Letters of reference
    • Confirmation of supervision from a Swiss host institution
    • Academic transcripts and certificates

There is no application fee. Applicants are strongly advised to beware of fraudulent offers requesting money—FCS never charges for scholarship applications.

Selection Process

Applications are assessed by the FCS based on:

  1. Candidate Profile – Academic background, achievements, and potential
  2. Quality of the Proposal – Clarity, relevance, feasibility, and innovation
  3. Synergies and Cooperation Potential – Potential for long-term collaboration with Swiss institutions

Selected candidates will be notified by May 2026 at the latest.
