Overview
Meta is seeking a highly motivated and organised professional to join its Africa, Middle East, and Türkiye (AMET) Privacy Policy team as Privacy Policy Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). This full-time role focuses on strategic privacy engagement across the region and offers an exciting opportunity to shape data protection policies in one of the world’s fastest-evolving digital landscapes.
Role Purpose
The Privacy Policy Manager will support Meta’s regional privacy strategy, leading stakeholder outreach, tracking privacy developments, and analyzing policy trends relevant to the company’s mission and products. This role involves high-level collaboration across Meta’s internal teams and with key external actors, including privacy regulators, academics, NGOs, and policymakers.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess privacy, data protection, and technology-related policy developments across Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Identify strategic privacy issues and link them with broader trends across the AMET region.
- Provide policy analysis on legislative and regulatory proposals related to privacy and data governance.
- Draft high-quality policy materials, engagement strategies, and regulatory submissions for internal and external audiences.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including regulators, advocacy organisations, and academic experts.
- Represent Meta in policy meetings, industry forums, and conferences within Africa and internationally.
- Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams (legal, public affairs, product) to align policy strategies with company goals.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher in law, international relations, public affairs, or a related field.
- At least 8 years of experience in a policy, regulatory, or government affairs role, with a clear focus on privacy, data protection, or digital policy.
- Demonstrated expertise in African privacy law and policy frameworks, with strong regional insight.
- Strong analytical and written communication skills, with the ability to draft complex policy documents clearly and persuasively.
- Proven experience engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, including government representatives, civil society, and international organisations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural awareness for effective collaboration in diverse teams.
- Fluency in English is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in a relevant discipline.
- Fluency in French and/or a local African language.
- Experience working within a data protection authority, regulatory body, or trade association.
- Familiarity with Meta’s family of apps and services and the broader tech policy landscape in Sub-Saharan Africa.
