About the Opportunity

Gold Standard is currently recruiting a Sustainability Officer – Land Use and Forests to join its Standard Development team. This is a dynamic and impactful position offering the opportunity to contribute to high-integrity climate action, with a focus on land use and forest-based certification tools. The role is fully remote, open to candidates based in the UK, Germany, or India.

Established in 2003 by WWF and other international NGOs, Gold Standard certifies climate and sustainable development initiatives worldwide. Its mission is to ensure that every dollar of climate and development finance goes as far as possible in creating real and verified impact.

Key Responsibilities

The Sustainability Officer will play a vital role in supporting the development of technical standards and certification methodologies. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing Requirements & Methodologies
    Create and refine technical tools and protocols under the Gold Standard for the Global Goals framework, ensuring alignment with international best practices.
  • Sustainability Research & Frameworks
    Conduct research and co-develop sustainability assessment frameworks in collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    Liaise with stakeholders, represent Gold Standard at international and regional events, and facilitate consultations to enhance standards and certification systems.
  • Technical Support
    Provide ongoing support to project developers, fund managers, and validation/verification bodies (VVBs), offering technical guidance to enable successful certification.
  • Process Innovation
    Assist in the digitisation and streamlining of certification procedures to improve user experience and operational efficiency.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Gold Standard is seeking a motivated and organised sustainability professional who is passionate about climate action and the role of certification in advancing global goals. Candidates should have:

  • Background in forestry, land use, agriculture, or related environmental sciences.
  • Strong understanding of carbon markets and sustainability frameworks.
  • Experience in developing or applying certification standards or methodologies.
  • Ability to engage with technical stakeholders and communicate complex concepts clearly.
  • Comfort working in a remote, collaborative, and multicultural environment.
