Position Title: Climate Advocacy Officer

Overview

DanChurchAid (DCA), an international faith-based development organization headquartered in Denmark, is recruiting a qualified and motivated Kenyan national for the role of Climate Advocacy Officer. This position is based in Nairobi, Kenya, with occasional international travel required.

The Climate Advocacy Officer will operate under the day-to-day supervision of the DCA Kenya Country Director, with functional reporting to the Global Climate Lead based in Copenhagen. The role is embedded within DCA’s global climate advocacy team and plays a key part in implementing international climate advocacy initiatives.

Role Purpose

The Climate Advocacy Officer will be responsible for implementing global climate advocacy strategies developed in collaboration with the DCA climate advocacy team and the Global Climate Lead. The role requires both strategic thinking and practical execution of advocacy efforts aimed at influencing climate policy and enhancing the rights of communities affected by climate change.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct strategic research, monitoring, and analysis of international climate policies and political developments.
  • Engage with relevant networks, coalitions, alliances, and DCA partners to support shared advocacy objectives.
  • Establish and maintain dialogue with duty bearers, policy makers, and other key stakeholders.
  • Plan and implement advocacy activities and events in close coordination with the DCA climate team.
  • Provide logistical and practical support for advocacy events and campaigns.
  • Contribute to project-related tasks including budget tracking, project management, monitoring, and reporting.

Qualifications and Experience

Education:
Applicants must hold a university degree in Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Social Studies, Geography, Natural Resource Management, Communication, Project Management, or a related discipline.

Experience:
The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in climate change advocacy.
  • Demonstrated involvement in international networks or collaborations.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Proven experience in planning and executing advocacy initiatives, campaigns, and public events.

Additional Competencies

  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity.
  • Self-motivation, creativity, and capacity to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Solid understanding of project management practices.
  • Kenyan nationality and legal right to work in Kenya.

Contract and Benefits
This is a 12-month position, with potential for extension depending on performance and funding.
