ILO Is Hiring: Gender Equality and Non-Discrimination Officer (P3)

The International Labour Organization (ILO) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Gender Equality and Non-Discrimination Officer (P3) for a 6-month parental leave replacement in the Gender, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Branch (GEDI) of the Conditions of Work and Equality Department (WORKQUALITY), based in Geneva.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the ILO’s global agenda for inclusive and gender-transformative change in the world of work. The selected candidate will support policy development, capacity-building, monitoring, and inter-agency collaboration efforts aimed at fostering gender equality, eliminating discrimination, and promoting a fairer future of work for all.

Key Responsibilities

Working under the direct supervision of the Senior Specialist, Gender Equality and Non-Discrimination, and reporting to the Branch Chief of GEDI, the Officer will carry out the following duties:

  • Technical Input & Knowledge Sharing: Draft and review policy briefs, reports, and digital knowledge products on gender equality and non-discrimination. Tailor content for diverse audiences, including social media.
  • Training Development: Contribute to the design and rollout of training materials and tools for ILO staff, constituents, and partners.
  • Project Support: Provide technical assistance to development cooperation projects implementing gender-transformative approaches, including in fragile contexts.
  • Interdepartmental Coordination: Support cross-cutting collaboration across GEDI, WORKQUALITY, and other departments to promote integrated, intersectional strategies.
  • Field Office Support: Provide guidance and tools to ILO regional and country offices on topics such as violence and harassment at work, the care economy, pay equity, digital transitions, and just transitions.
  • Strategic Monitoring: Monitor and analyze delivery under Outcome 5 of the ILO Programme & Budget. Assist with results frameworks, global project tracking, and reporting exercises.
  • Knowledge Management: Support information mapping and enhance data organization using digital tools and innovative technology.
  • Event & Network Support: Help organize and deliver global/regional workshops, webinars, and UN-level engagements. Coordinate the ILO Global Gender Network and strengthen inter-agency partnerships.
  • Gender Action Plan Implementation: Assist in tracking and supporting the ILO Gender Equality Action Plan and alignment with the UN System-Wide Action Plan and UN Disability Inclusion Strategy.
  • Quality Control & Evaluation: Contribute to evaluations and appraisals of development cooperation projects and Decent Work Country Programmes (DWCPs).

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in gender studies, social sciences, international development, human rights, law, or a related field.
  • A Bachelor’s degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a Master’s degree.

Experience

  • Minimum of five years of experience in gender equality, non-discrimination, or women’s rights.
  • Proven ability to analyze, write, and communicate policy content related to the care economy, workplace equality, or transitional economies is desirable.

Languages

  • Fluency in English (oral and written) is required.
  • Working knowledge of a second ILO official language (French or Spanish) is required.
  • Knowledge of a third language is an asset.

Key Competencies

  • Solid understanding of global gender equality frameworks, intersectionality, and inclusive policy-making.
  • Strong writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research tools and data collection methods.
  • Skilled in collaboration, especially within multicultural, tripartite, and inter-agency environments.
  • Adaptability with new technologies, knowledge-sharing platforms, and project management tools.
  • Commitment to inclusive, gender-responsive values and working practices.
