UNESCO is Hiring: Communication Officer (Arabic Content Focus – P-3 Level)

UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, is seeking a dynamic and skilled Communication Officer to join its Division for Communications and Public Engagement (CPE). This role, based at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, is positioned at the P-3 level and is open to both internal and external candidates.

The successful candidate will report to the Chief of the Digital Content Unit (CPE/DCT) under the overall authority of the Director of the Division for Communications and Public Engagement (CPE). This position plays a pivotal role in shaping and coordinating UNESCO’s Arabic-language digital content strategy, communications campaigns, and outreach efforts across both headquarters and Field Offices.


Key Responsibilities

1. Digital Content Strategy and Coordination (Arabic):

  • Serve as the editor-in-chief for Arabic content, ensuring clarity, consistency, and alignment with UNESCO’s vision.
  • Coordinate and manage Arabic-language digital platforms, including websites and social media channels.
  • Develop and publish original, engaging Arabic content tailored to key audiences, particularly Member States.
  • Collaborate with UNESCO’s Field Offices to produce and synchronize Arabic communications efforts.
  • Drive digital campaigns, identify opportunities for visual storytelling, and foster audience engagement through dialogue and content responsiveness.
  • Partner with other UN agencies and external media outlets operating in Arabic to extend UNESCO’s reach and influence.

2. Field Office Support and Oversight:

  • Provide guidance, training, and quality control to Field Offices across the Arab region on Arabic-language communication initiatives.
  • Ensure consistency and high standards in the publication of regional content and its integration with global campaigns.
  • Support Field staff with the use of UNESCO’s content management systems, including Drupal-based platforms.

3. Project Management and Strategic Communication:

  • Lead or contribute to the communication components of large-scale Arabic-language projects, including project development, implementation, reporting, and fundraising.
  • Represent the CPE Division in relevant Arabic-focused initiatives and coordinate with internal sectors and external partners.
  • Monitor the performance and results of communication campaigns, adjusting strategies based on data and stakeholder feedback.

4. Language and Content Quality Assurance:

  • Maintain high editorial standards across all Arabic content.
  • Review and assess contributions from Field Offices for relevance, coherence, and alignment with strategic communication goals.
  • Guarantee the quality, accuracy, and cultural appropriateness of messaging tailored to the Arab region.

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in communication, journalism, or Arabic language studies.

Professional Experience:

  • A minimum of four years of professional experience in communications, with at least two years at the international level.
  • Proven experience working in the MENA region, particularly in communications and partnership-building.
  • Demonstrated success in content creation, including writing, editing, and managing multimedia content.
  • Experience in designing and executing strategic communication campaigns.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent writing, editorial, and oral communication skills in Arabic.
  • Proficiency in English and French (written and spoken) is essential.
  • Strong understanding of digital communication tools, content management systems (preferably Drupal), and social media platforms.
  • Competence in graphic design tools and digital visual storytelling.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and project management abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment and to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Previous experience within the UN system or international organizations is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with UNESCO’s mandate and global development frameworks.

Compensation and Benefits

UNESCO offers a competitive remuneration package, including an approximate annual starting salary of USD 111,566.87, plus benefits such as:
